AI is learning to do the jobs of the people who helped train it. Data labelers spent millions of hours correcting outputs and teaching models to recognise patterns. Developers created the code, documentation and technical solutions that helped AI learn how software is built. Writers and translators produced the language, knowledge and cultural context that models learned from. Support teams and knowledge workers created countless examples of how questions are answered, problems are solved and work gets done. Now AI can label data, write code, translate languages, create content, answer customers and automate parts of the workflows these people perform every day. That does not mean AI is bad. AI has the potential to remove repetitive work, increase productivity and give people more time to focus on creativity, judgment and meaningful problems. But it raises an important question: If human knowledge, behavior and work helped create this technology, who should benefit from the value it generates?
