Claude has discovered a previously unknown enzyme system hidden in the DNA of bacteriophages. Beside the enzyme’s gene sits a long array of repeating DNA—a structure that looks somewhat similar to CRISPR.
We don’t yet understand what this system does, but only a handful of known systems share its features, and all of them are able to cut, copy, and paste DNA. Historically, the discovery of such programmable systems has helped revolutionize medicine. CRISPR, for instance, is now the foundation of genetic medicines. But it will take much more work to learn what this system does, and whether it can be put to similar use.

I was one of the first partisans of BRC-20 when Domo launched the protocol. I’ve never said that publicly, and to my knowledge, nobody else has either. But it’s true.
Before Domo, I was already working on experimenting with fungible tokens on Bitcoin using Ordinals inscriptions. When he launched the BRC-20 protocol, I immediately saw the potential and agreed this was the right direction. His simple yet powerful approach with JSON on satoshis made it perfect for bringing real tokens to Bitcoin. He is a pioneer.
Domo deployed the very first BRC-20 tokens like ordi. From day one, I was deploying and minting early BRC-20 tokens with the initial small community. I actually deployed one of the biggest BRC-20 tokens and minted several others while doing heavy promotion behind the scenes. For the most part, it was just a handful of us pushing things forward. There weren’t really any big spaces or public sessions at the beginning.
After the launch in March 2023, BRC-20 activity was slow. At times, I minted tokens myself and kept promoting to create the illusion of more interest, hoping to motivate the early community. They’d ask if I did it, and I’d lie and say no.
Then it happened — suddenly, the whole world cared. The weight of that attention was overwhelming, but it was an incredible experience that transformed my life in ways I’m still processing, both good and bad.
I stepped back shortly after the launch in March 2023.
You know me without knowing it.
Maybe I’ll share more details someday, but for now, I’d rather focus on the future. I just needed to get this off my chest.
