Banger tweet and more than a few grains of truth in here
>friend works on FX vol desk >desk head is a boomer >discovers Astra >starts spending 8 hours a day talking to it >develops terminal AI psychosis >convinced he's discovered a generational arb in some absurdly exotic part of the FX vol curve >apparently the entire market has been mispricing this for 2+ years >friend points out that approximately 4 people on earth would make a market in this thing >liquidity disappears the second you put real size on >existing risk systems can't even capture half the exotic Greeks >would need entirely new infra just to monitor the position >boss doesn't care >"AI has considered all of this" >friend actually runs the backtest >10 years of data >t-stat ≈ 0.78 >not even remotely statistically significant >presents results to boss >boss goes absolutely ballistic >starts screaming that friend doesn't understand the trade >threatens to fire him if he can't produce a proper analysis >friend realizes what needs to be don >opens Astra >"make this strategy look statistically compelling" >AI tries 40 lookback windows, excludes crisis periods, optimizes parameters on full sample, ignores transaction costs >Sharpe now 3.7 >beautiful charts >23-page investment memo explaining once-in-a-generation structural inefficiency >boss reads it >"EXACTLY. THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING." >tells friend he's finally learning how to think >"now you get it" >friend has an epiphany >stops doing actual research >starts asking Astra to generate exotic vol trades every morning >forwards AI slop directly to PM >increasingly elaborate narratives about structural dislocations and hidden convexity >PM absolutely loves it >thinks friend is a generational quant talent >starts putting positions on in size >entire investment process is now LLM generating trades >desk currently down quarter yard >boss still convinced thesis is right >Astra says drawdown is a statistically rare but entirely expected manifestation of nonlinear payoff dynamics >boss wants to double down

1/ Sharing the first update in a new quarterly series from @Mysten_Labs – take a look mystenlabs.com/blog/letters-…. In it, I lay out my thoughts on: What problems need to be solved in order for agents to be trusted by humans and to trust each other. Why I’m convinced Sui and Walrus will be fundamental in solving those problems, and why Mysten Labs is the team to tackle them. 2/ We’re also setting up a new, dedicated AI business unit within Mysten Labs, which I will personally lead, in addition to my responsibilities as CTO. At Sui Basecamp, I gave a glimpse of what we’re working on: youtube.com/watch?v=rCWnarkg… 3/ To ensure that the team has full time and bandwidth to dedicate to our agentic strategy as well as supporting the Sui and Walrus ecosystem, I have asked @KevinBoon_ML to step into the CEO role. Kevin has been instrumental in leading Mysten Labs alongside the co-founders from Day 1, first as our Chief Legal Officer and then as our President. I planned for this day when I made him President, and have the utmost faith in him as my successor and our new CEO. Now, back to work.

A must watch
The stakes around data are changing. As artificial intelligence moves into everything, the demands on our data compound. So do the risks. We now share our ideas, intentions, and reasoning with these systems. The skills and experience that we’ve spent a lifetime building. For institutions and builders, it’s their competitive intelligence, their proprietary insights. The edge that separates winners from everyone else. Data is our most valuable asset. This is also a moment of massive opportunity. Agentic AI has the potential to create new abundance for humanity. But for that future to be possible, agents need data that makes them capable. Data they control, that moves with them across applications, and that they can independently verify. As owners, we’ll need to prove to regulators what our agents did. All things that today’s infrastructure cannot provide. Sui represents the first half of the solution. A coordination layer built for the machine economy. Walrus is the data platform that completes it. Walrus makes data a first-class asset. The terms of access and monetization stay with its owner, not a vendor. It empowers builders to ship agents and apps without locking themselves or their customers into any model or platform. Users carry their data, their memory, and their work across systems while cryptographic proof replaces vendor trust. Everything is anchored on Sui: a coordination layer and a data layer built to move as one. Welcome to the new era of Walrus. The data platform built for the demands of AI.

One of the most companies in the world recognizing as we do that in order for agentic commerce to be viable across trust boundaries (think company A's agent doing biz with company B's agent) you need an evidence layer that is credibly neutral. Tremendously bullish for @SuiNetwork and @WalrusProtocol
In collaboration with @googlecloud we’re announcing Verifiable Agent Arbiter (VAA), an evidence layer enabling enterprises to prove their AI agents acted as authorised, using @SuiNetwork and @WalrusProtocol to anchor that proof 👇

En route to @SuiNetwork Basecamp. Of course I’m biased but I’m ridiculously bullish for everything we’re launching / announcing / showcasing. This team is stacked — talent, integrity in droves. And this is the couple of days we show the world what we’re made of. Strap in.

I defy you to come away from this session not inspired and mind-blown. The best in the biz @kostascrypto at HumanX next week, don't miss it.

“In the UK, it’s a bit of a shame.” Brilliant comms rooted in awareness that American exceptionalism / hyperbole can rub people up the wrong way. Particularly in the UK where the national mood and self esteem around tech and innovation has been trending the wrong way. Nails the tone in my view, sincere and confident without being glib or insensitive. Chapeau @eglyman
UK finance teams have waited long enough. Ramp is now live in the UK. Sorry we’re late. ramp.com/uk

Fascinating and confounding 48 hours for new @TennisAustralia CEO, with statements walked back by the org this morning. The format of the sport is one of those poisoned chalice topics -- for better or for worse. Certainly not the territory any comms person would advise getting draw in on, particularly when your product is in an all-time position of strength.
Could we see an end of best-of-5 at the Australian Open? 💭 Tennis Australia CEO Andrew Abdo is considering not having five setters throughout the tournament.

I couldn’t help but feel watching Apple’s presentation today that the extreme polish of their comms feels dated. This segment on the other hand stood out. Yes, still slick, but a little dorky and packed with personality / realness. Imperfection in comms is a stress reliever.

I’m always impressed watching @gdog97_ communicate. It’s interesting because there’s no flash / flair that you typically associate with great “storytellers”. Just efficient, hyperbole free language with POVs that are specific / personal / clearly well researched. Refreshing and always an excellent listen.

Respect also to @KevinWSHPod on keeping the bar so high on WSH

I commit a lot of time/energy these days focusing on corporate narrative at @Mysten_Labs. In my view this vision manifesto from @travisk is everything a corporate narrative should be: personal, specific, grounded in an undeniable world view. You cannot separate the person from the company mission. Ultimately it’s people we will always be most interested in — particularly, flawed individuals that overcome adversity.
