Movement, particularly high intensity interval training (HIIT), boosts cognitive ability 🧠 🏃♀️

Single Bouts of HIIT Exercise Boost Brain Power
New research reveals that even a single session of intense exercise, like HIIT or cycling, can enhance brain function in young adults.
The study found cognitive benefits in areas like memory, attention, and executive function, with high-intensity workouts showing the strongest effects.
These effects were especially pronounced when the exercises were shorter than 30 minutes and tested immediately after completion.
While the cognitive improvements were modest, they suggest that brief, vigorous physical activity may yield immediate mental benefits.
This finding broadens our understanding of exercise's impact on cognition beyond long-term training routines.
More support for spaced versus blocked practise to enhance learning!! 🧠

Cells Beyond the Brain Show Surprising Memory Abilities
A new study reveals that cells outside the brain, such as kidney and nerve cells, can also store memory by responding to repeated stimuli similarly to brain cells.
Researchers found that non-brain cells can activate a “memory gene” when exposed to spaced chemical signals, a process mirroring how neurons learn better with spaced intervals rather than cramming.
This discovery suggests that memory formation might be a fundamental property of all cells, not just those in the brain.
By engineering these cells to emit a glow when they activated the memory gene, the scientists tracked how the cells learned to recognize repeated signals.
The findings not only provide a novel perspective on memory but also hint at potential health applications for conditions related to memory and learning.

Reprogrammed Brain Cells Could Restore Damaged Circuits
Researchers have successfully reprogrammed brain support cells called astroglia into neuron-like cells that mimic specific interneurons vital for brain functions.
This study, focusing on regenerative medicine, demonstrated that modifying a protein called Ascl1 enhances the conversion of astroglia into functioning neurons, which could potentially restore disrupted brain circuits in conditions like epilepsy.
The newly created neurons display high-frequency firing, a critical property of certain interneurons responsible for brain circuit regulation.
Unlike natural neurons, these engineered cells retain unique features but still exhibit specific neuron behaviors.
This breakthrough suggests that astroglia could be used to repair brain circuitry and improve treatments for neurological disorders.
Future studies will explore further optimization of these induced neurons for clinical application.

An important story 🧠
CPR was performed on me during a seizure while solo travelling in Peru in June. I was restrained. I fractured my spine, ribs and required pretty extensive shoulder surgery

A brief, data supported protocol for reducing stress around the clock is 5min/day of physiological sighing (double max inhale via the nose, then exhale to lungs empty via mouth; repeat). This outperforms 5 min/day meditation & other breathing protocols. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3663…
