For anyone tuning in to virtual #ieeevis24 today, consider catching our work "The Language of Infographics: Toward Understanding Conceptual Metaphor Use in Scientific Storytelling", to be presented in the Text, Annotations, and Metaphors session 🎉
In this work, we explored the feasibility of mapping different types of conceptual metaphors (e.g., orientation, where in representing time left can signify "the past" while right "the future") to elements of scientific infographics.

VIS is the best academic conference I’ve been to hands down, a big tent of friendly, smart, open-minded folks working on big problems. If you do work on visualization, data analysis, usable statistics, or applied behavioral science, please consider checking out the conference!
📣 Have you registered for IEEE VIS 2024 yet? Registration and conference hotel booking are both open!
Early registration ends on Sep 1: ieeevis.org/year/2024/info/r…
Conference hotel bookings are open until Sep 8: ieeevis.org/year/2024/info/r…

Buzzing from yet another inspiring and fun @EuroVisConf, made even more special this year with the opportunity to introduce my two new PhD fellows, Roxanne Ziman and Amy Zhang, to the community! #eurovis2024
Love this idea of vis facilitating the data exploration pipeline *even* more with persistence of visual changes back in the code 🤩 #eurovis2024 presented by @alexander_lex [github.com/visdesignlab/pers…]
Fantastic STAR on visualization x sonification by @KajetanEnge et al. at @EuroVisConf - love this insight on the islands of research groups active in this space, and makes me wonder how many other topics in our field look like this
It’s definitely conference season! On my way to @EuroVisConf for a fun week of science and (re)connecting with colleagues and friends!
Today’s inter and cross species interactions sessions at #chi2024 is so heartwarming and neat

Kicking off #chi2024 with keynote from Kate Crawford (!!) - loved her book Atlas of AI and very stoked for this
At #chi2024 on wednesday 14-15:30 I’ll be presenting our work “When the body became data: historical data cultures and anatomical illustration” in the politics of data session—so excited to be sharing this in Hawaii 🌺

Had a wonderful time visiting @bernard_juergen /the IVDA lab and @melassady /the IVIA lab. It’s always fun to exchange ideas and see what new things come out. Thanks for hosting me! Bonus to the trip was the special exhibit on the human body at the Zurich National Museum 🫀

I’ll be sharing some current research in narrative medical visualization as part of today’s HCI Symposium with @infomedia_uib —looking forward to learning from others working in this space! All are welcome to attend, happening today and tomorrow: uib.no/en/infomedia/164550/i…
Great piece!
I've written a piece that is very important to me and I'm quite emotional in sharing it: Alive, Political Visual Words medium.com/@federicafragapan…
I've explored how visual language used in #dataviz can be alive and, in some cases, political. I really really hope you will read it!
