From district to building block level resolution with #AI - increasing our spatial resolution 4 times from 200m to 50m. Combined with our high frequency temporal resolution, this is an unprecedented earth observation data basis 😍. #superresolution – at San Francisco, CA

Fact check: extinction risk from AI, much like extinction risk from self-replicating grey goo nanobots or from an alien invasion from Kepler-62, should be pretty far down the list of global priorities. Maybe look at the less fictitious risks of climate change, pandemics, and war.

This is significant news. All planetary boundaries mapped out for the first time, with six of nine crossed. More info below and in the 🧵

MAJOR UPDATE: All planetary boundaries are assessed, and six are crossed. For the first time ever, scientists have quantified all nine planetary boundaries. Six of them are already transgressed and we are increasing pressure on the others. Read more: buff.ly/45Ps1QG

In #datascience, we look at #extremeevent data almost every day. To be honest, at least for me there's a tendency to occasionally lose touch with the true magnitude and severity of the disasters occurring on the ground. During #IGARSS23, our team visited some sites: #purpose
