Everyone across this country wants change - with governments across the United Kingdom working together. Andy Burnham is making that change.

Scotland is the most devolved nation in the UK - yet one of the most centralised in Europe. It’s time to change that and give our towns, cities, and communities more power over their own futures.

Glasgow is home to people of many faiths & beliefs, & people of no faith. Across the city, communities are working together to build understanding, challenge intolerance & strengthen relationships. Different beliefs. Shared respect. One Glasgow. #NoPlaceForHate #NationalHCAW

Scottish Labour leader Michael Marra has accused SNP ministers of 'short changing communities to the tune of £2 billion' as he insisted Scotland’s councils had been underfunded👇

Too much power and money is hoarded by the Scottish Government when it should be pushed out to communities. The SNP should hand over the powers and funding to let Glasgow flourish. news.stv.tv/west-central/lab…

Despite record UK Labour Government funding, a centralising SNP Scottish Govt continues to choke off funding for the most deprived, and in greatest need, local communities. Meanwhile, Glasgow continues to face brutal SNP cuts damaging the fabric of the city.
Glasgow is being short-changed. The SNP must answer for years of underfunding and the pressure on our vital services. Glasgow Labour will keep fighting for a fair funding deal, competent leadership and a council that puts our city’s people first. news.stv.tv/west-central/lab…

Three years on from the atrocities of the October 7th attacks, we remember those who were murdered and who lost their freedom. Antisemitism has no place in any society. The efforts towards peace must never be extinguished.

On the anniversary of the horrific October 7 attacks, we remember those murdered by Hamas and all whose lives were changed forever. My thoughts are with the bereaved and Jewish communities in Scotland and beyond. We must stand against antisemitism and work for lasting peace.

Three years on from the October 7 attacks on Israel, we remember those who were senselessly killed by Hamas terrorists. The impact of the attacks has been felt not just in Israel, but in Jewish communities across the world who still bear the burden of the tragic events that day. In the years since, we have seen a disturbing rise in antisemitic behaviour in the UK. A year ago we witnessed a horrifying terrorist attack on the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation in Manchester, with further attacks against Jewish people and institutions since. I want Britain’s Jewish community to hear this from me directly. We stand with you. Abuse and violence against you, in any form, will not be tolerated. Not on our streets, not online, not in our schools or universities. That’s why we are funding protection for synagogues, schools and community buildings, and why we will come down hard on antisemitism wherever it is found - in classrooms, on campuses and in neighbourhoods. At home, we are committed to protecting our citizens from vile hatred. Abroad, we continue to work towards a two-state solution, with Israelis and Palestinians living side by side in peace and security. An attack on Jewish people in Britain is an attack on all of us. Antisemitism has no place in this country, and we will do everything we can to stamp it out.

The progress today is welcome, but we should never forget the distress and uncertainty caused to thousands of workers after the SNP and Greens voted to press ahead with the pay and grading proposals despite Labour’s warnings.

The first thing I did as Scottish Labour leader was write to John Swinney calling to establish a cross party commission to meet Scotland’s child poverty targets. Tomorrow I will be making the case to the First Minister directly. dailyrecord.co.uk/news/polit…

🚨 Two different records on workers’ rights. The SNP-run Glasgow City Council has threatened fire and rehire affecting 23,000 workers. The Labour Government is introducing new protections restricting fire and rehire. Workers deserve security, fairness and respect.

🚨REMINDER: Watch the moment on 20 August when SNP and Green councillors voted to press ahead with the new pay and grading proposals, while Glasgow Labour sought to rule out fire and rehire. We warned where this could lead. Only Glasgow Labour stood against it.
