Wrote about Siege X, which should have just been a full sequel. hitreload.xyz/when-is-a-sequ…

When is a sequel not a sequel?

With CS2, Siege X and Hunt: Showdown 1886, live service games are having an identity crisis

This week's newsletter is about Stalker 2. this isn't a review, but if it WAS, I'd give it a 3/5. Buggy brilliance. hitreload.xyz/dont-worry-sta…

Don't worry, Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is still weird as hell

Sure, there's a bigger budget and some shiny Unreal Engine 5 additions, but GSC Game World is committed to keeping Stalker weird

This week's newsletter is on Rising Storm 2, which you can buy for a quid. hitreload.xyz/rising-storm-2…

Rising Storm 2: Vietnam proves that war is hell, but it makes me feel like a fortunate son

"War, what is it good for?" sang Edwin Starr. The answer is this game.

Accidentally hit publish a day early on the newsletter because I'm horribly jetlagged, but here's some thoughts on Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. hitreload.xyz/call-of-duty-b…

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is not Brat

Activision's shooter is more interested in bring all things to all people than being interesting, more Taylor Swift than Charli XCX

Steam Next Fest's best demo is Mario Party for murders, and the full game is out tomorrow

Straftat rocks, and it's coming out this Thursday.

Wrote about @mattwla's superlative Echo Point Nova for this week's newsletter, and how it channels the feeling of playing a CS 1.6 surf map and being incredible at it. hitreload.xyz/echo-point-nov…

Echo Point Nova channels the speed and energy of the best ‘00s Counter-Strike spaces, but this time...

It may be single-player, but Echo Point Nova owes a debt to Valve's multiplayer classic

This week's newsletter is a short one and mostly explaining how Escape From Tarkov is like punting over sandcastles hitreload.xyz/escape-from-ta…

Escape From Tarkov has an endgame problem, but it's always been about the journey

Tarkov is getting stale again, same as it ever was

Squad and the surprising social brilliance of military simulators

Squad is 20% firefights and 90% dicking around with shovels, and that's the way I like it

This week's newsletter is on Battlefield and how EA is clearly hoping to make a safer more bankable battlefield. hitreload.xyz/its-time-for-b…

It's time for Battlefield to stop experimenting, and they know it

EA wants a safe version of the classic formula, and so do the fans

A lovely newsletter about I Am Your Beast, and its focus on being an improvisational, sweaty mosh pit of a combat experience.

This week's newsletter is on the superlative I Am Your Beast, which is the best action game I've played all year. hitreload.xyz/i-am-your-beas…

I Am Your Beast's quick and brutal firefights make it a must-play

HitReload is an (aspirationally) weekly newsletter about shooters. It's free, unless you want to pay for the $3 a month version. Happy Call of Duty Open Beta weekend to those who celebrate. I was...
