Every generation has had its challenges- would you rather have lived in the 40s and fought in WWII or live during the depression? My first house,in the 80s, had an interest rate of 14%, my car was 16%. Would you rather live when there were no vaccines and a cough that could kill you? Earlier generations didn’t buy $10 drinks, buy video games, $1000 phones or $200 tennis shoes;we went to Kmart to buy shoes and mom said you’ll like these shoes or go barefoot; families lived together longer and shared in the work. My husband and I lived in a one room cabin for 2 years when we were first married while we saved money to buy a house. We bought an acre and put a double wide on it. Lived there for 5 years. Sold it and bought a bigger house with the money we made. We moved 12 times in 18 months as my husband was transferred around the country. He didn’t quit because he was unhappy about it, we packed up, took our three children- a newborn, 2 and 4 year old and went where the work was. My husband worked and still works 16 hours a day and I spent 35 years as a nurse. The first 5 years I worked night shifts so we didn’t have to pay for a babysitter. No generation has it easy, but the hardships are what strengthens you and makes you the person you are today. You can choose to be whiner and a victim or get off your butt, work hard, have patience and make something of yourself.
