The answer: yes! Consistently elevated lungworm counts in adult red deer are associated with poor body condition, and consistently elevated egg counts are shed by the younger adults. #AcademicTwitter @AgResearchNEWS
Are there culprits to those random high egg and lungworm counts? We followed 200+ farmed deer over 6 months to find out... Our latest farmed deer parasite paper! Funded by Deer Industry NZ & @AgResearchNEWS sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

New preprint! I will try to keep this summary lay-friendly. Recently a viral outbreak started in Cyprus with a high number of cats showing clinical signs of feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), and it is estimated that over 8000 cats had died by mid-July. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Egg Reappearance Periods! Yes, they have gotten shorter and shorter. But what are the consequences? We just published the first study to investigate the impact of shortened ERPs on cyathostomin infection pressure and parasite burdens. Read more here: authors.elsevier.com/a/1hHoi…

Visiting the steepest farm I've ever seen πŸ‘πŸƒπŸͺ± Always a great experience getting out of the lab, meeting farmers, and learning about the challenges they face...

Excited to share our new paper! 🐎 A ~5-year study monitoring parasite species diversity in intervention-free native ponies found highly complex strongylid communities, with Cylicostephanus longibursatus being associated with patent over-winter infections. doi.org/10.1016/j.ijpara.202…

Some goodies arrived through the mail: tissue worms extracted in 1996. A really interesting parasite, the adult wormss can be found in the central nervous system of deer πŸ€”πŸ›
