The #1 marketing lesson from Monaco: Monaco has our first marketing hire starting today. I’ve been doing marketing for the company with <10% of my time. I don’t have much marketing experience prior to Monaco (I’ve been in sales most of my career). My #1 lesson: just try things. The animation below represents my experience perfectly. The data isn’t mine, but anecdotally seems correct. 9 out of 10 startups never try something new. Most that do, fail and quit trying new things. The top 1% just keep shooting. Keep shooting.

Final day of @clerk Growth Shop: measurement and testing. As onboarding moves into the CLI, traditional web attribution only tells part of the story. We’ve begun to map a new funnel & started evals with @gauge_sh & @2027dev to understand performance & find where agents get stuck. This frames the attribution challenge clearly without feeling uncertain & gives us forward momentum for measurement framework.

Gotta talk about the good and the bad right? I noticed our signups / conversions are pretty weak this month. TLDR everything is downstream of us getting less traffic to the site. Our google referrals have basically halved this year (chart below). Makes sense, since even anecdotally, I find myself using google less and less. What's the answer? No short term fix. Need to explore other channels: youtube, newsletter, creators etc. Current strategy of "just write content" seems to be on the way out in terms of efficacy.

Great example of disciplined marketing... Call out the *one* thing that's most obviously painful at your competitor, and stop there. Adding more points pulls focus away from the area you're strongest on. For Clerk, it's "We're like Auth0 but better for React"
