Swipe the Ankles Drill - The drill begins on a whistle, where coaches slowly drag bags away to simulate a runner. - Defenders start the drill on all fours and crawl toward the moving bags. - The primary goal of the drill is to simulate a defender's last line of defense by swiping the runner's ankle to bring them down. - Players are instructed to cup the ankle during the tackle attempt rather than using a closed fist or an open hand. - The technique emphasizes having something solid to grab onto as the runner moves away. - This specific movement is designed to train defenders on how to effectively make a tackle when they are trailing a play.
