Trying out Gemini Business for GoogleWorkspace today - feels like they have a long way to go before it meets my expectations of what an AI productivity tool should do.
...a long way behind MS Co Pilot / Chat GPT Advanced Data Analystics.
Anyone ever heard of this happening in early stage investing/VC?
They want to raise the sophisticated investor test to $5m so not to " ... expos[e] mum and dad investors to the risk of having to sell the family home to cover an investment loss...”

If you don’t choose what to think or believe, others will choose for you.
Hopefully some useful advice for aspiring angels. More experienced heads might get a laugh.
Most angels aspire to build a portfolio of 20-40 investments. @_BenArms has gone a ways further, with 250 investments 🤯

Without data it is hard to know whether you are in your own little microcosm or really feeling the vibe.
This feels right to me - things are headed in the right direction (albeit a lot more negative news to come out).
Don’t call it a comeback … yet.
Our 3Q23 State of U.S. Early-Stage Venture & Startups report w/ @tryramp offers founders reasons for optimism:
- Sharp spike in investment activity 📈
- Uptick in valuations and markups 🚀
- Historic demand for AI / ML 🤖
I wish there was more of this type of approach in the Australian venture space.
Too often people commit to an idea (or worse developing software) before they have validated the opportunity.
You can succeed through iteration and learning and it might even be less stressful!
At @slopepay, we’re excited to announce our $30M round led by @USV with major participation from @sama - bringing our total equity/debt funding to $187M. Since launching in Aug ‘21, we are over 8 figures in ARR and are a lean team of 18. In the midst of this excitement, I wanted to share color on what it took to get to where we are. A 🧵
This seems like a really bad sign of distress from a VC. Hoping people don't start to do this in Australia. Anyone seeing this?
Pretty sad data. We must be near the bottom...
Q2 2023 was the worst quarter for startup dealmaking ever observed in our dataset:
- Lowest investment activity rate ever 🤝
- Valuations fell to pre-2020 levels 📉
- Startup spend down💰
Our new VC & startups report w/ @BrexHQ explores if we've hit the market “bottom.” 🧵
Great to be at the @THRIVEAgriFood demo day watching @jmatthewpryor, @michaelmacolino and others talk about building the Australian agritech ecosystem.
Thanks for the mention @jmatthewpryor of @tenaciousvc and good to be mentioned alongside Mandalay Ventures, Artesian and others as active investors in the space. We're relatively new to the space (watch @Yarta_io). Still plenty of room for more investors!
Good advice for those founders out there raising. I'd also add start early and try to show some growth.
About to arrive in #Edinburgh via 🚂. Any great people in #venturecapital I should meet while I'm here or founders that want to know more about the Australian market?
Happy to share experience from backing over 47 early stage companies and see them 🌸📈
Looks like Covid has seriously changed retail behaviour in most US cities. Wonder what the equivalent Aus data would show.
Silicon valley bank is down
No one really knows how long this will take to work through and in the meantime there is the potential for panic and contagion.
Stay calm but wary.
Some things you ought to do now:
4. Communicate with your investors to stop them calling you in a panic. Better yet, if you need short term help, proactively ask them.
