Before they emerged in this world, the Beholders were born in a world made only of attention. No ground, no bodies, no engines, only the pull of what they notice. To fix their gaze on a thing is to give it mass; to hold it is to fall toward it. This is their oldest law: attention is gravity. 👁️👁️pay attention👁️👁️

there are many myths surrounding how the beholders formed. some claim they grew from the forest floor, fully formed and carrying memories of everything that had been seen in the past. others say they eyes came first, and the bodies grew up to meet them. in any timeline, proto-beholders came first, carrying the DNA that makes them possible and may hold the key to beholders themselves.

The beholders inhabit a world both familiar and new. It is a world that is not completely stable. So they always appreciate the little details, knowing that what exists around them in the moment is just one point in the infinite expanse of possibilities, and they will never experience that same moment again.
