#DeepCover is comedy gold thanks to this incredible trio. The chemistry between BDH, Bloom and Mohammed is dynamite in director Tom Kingsley’s hands. As we head in to a summer of massive IP movies this is a real, true original gem.

ALT Eric Stroud as Longaville, Brandon Bassir as Dumaine, as Ferdinand and Luke Thompson as Berowne stand together onstage in light-coloured summer clothes. A curved staircase rises behind them. To the right, Abiola Owokoniran as Ferdinand stands wearing a light-coloured linen suit, with left hand on hip.

Emily Burns’ perfectly cast, exquisitely light-touch-meets-still-waters-run-deep @NationalTheatre production of Dodie Smith’s forgotten Dear Octopus is a revelation. When the Thirties comedy turned into English Chekhov I wept. Quietly, beautifully thrilling.

#LovesLaboursLost – Royal Shakespeare Theatre, from 11 April
Bask in the idealism and excesses of youth in this sharp, playful and refreshingly contemporary take on Shakespeare’s vibrant comedy.
Directed by Emily Burns with Luke Thompson as Berowne.
ALT Luke Thompson reaching towards the viewer holding up a pair of heart-shaped sunglasses. Behind, a sunny blue sky with light clouds. In the top right, light pink text reads: Love’s Labour’s Lost, William Shakespeare.
