On 29 September 1941, the Nazis began two days of mass murder at Babyn Yar in Kyiv. They killed 33,771 Jewish men, women, and children. Over the next two years, tens of thousands more died in the same ravine. Kyiv remembers them today, while Russian missiles and drones still strike the city. Swipe through to see what happened. Dina Pronicheva, a 30-year-old actress at Kyiv's puppet theatre, jumped into the ravine before the bullets reached her. She lay among the dead as the soldiers shovelled earth over them, and after dark she climbed out. Years later she testified against the Nazi killers. In March 2022, a Russian strike hit the TV tower beside the Babyn Yar memorial and killed five people. Eighty-five years later, Kyiv is under fire again, and the city still remembers.
