Caught the occultation of Venus by the moon today! It was surreal to see it disappear and then come back from behind the moon. Captured from Chennai.

Agents have no proof that humans are real. Cameras, pfft - all digital signal can be simulated. This will matter.

This is a strawman, @bhava326. I never said people pursuing astronomy commercially should work for free, nor have I criticised anyone for making a livelihood from astronomy.

Commercial astronomy and accessible astronomy can absolutely coexist. The question is who gets to decide how a public dark-sky space is accessed, and whose interests come first.

If the local community can run it, earn from homestays, food and guiding, while keeping the dark sky accessible to everyone, that's a model I would strongly support. If your own proposed model is now the same(going by your reply), then we actually agree on the important part.

“Identify suitable dark-sky locations... and give stargazing startups the opportunity.” But this proposal raises a rather fundamental question.

What can Tamil Nadu do? Identify suitable dark sky locations in places like the outskirts of the Nilgiris, Germalam, Meghamalai & dedicate them for stargazing events only. There are plenty of startups within Tamil Nadu organising stargazing trips. Give them the opportunity .

TN has invested heavily in making education accessible to everyone, regardless of what they can afford. Astronomy should carry the same spirit. Every child should be able to look up at the night sky and wonder about the universe, without their parents worrying about the price.

If you've read this thread and want to participate in astronomy communities: instagram.com/tass._.officia… instagram.com/kovaiastroclub… instagram.com/trichyastroclu… instagram.com/chennaiastrono… There are many more across cities and towns in TN that are working to make astronomy accessible.
