Lerd 1.37 is out. The part I'm most happy about: a request now carries one id from nginx to PHP to the browser. Open a recent request and you see everything it ran on a timeline, including what the page itself reported back. Your AI assistant gets the same view over MCP, and it starts with what went wrong. Services sleep when nothing uses them. A request to a sleeping site is held open until things are up, then gets the real response. Nothing ever sees a waking page. The dashboard got a lot lighter, on a busy machine it went from over a gigabyte to under a hundred megabytes, because the debug buffer lives in SQLite now instead of memory. Also in this one: fetch, pull, push and branch switching from the site header, with a database snapshot before you move. Secrets from 1Password, Doppler, Infisical and the rest without touching .env. DNS built into Lerd, no more dnsmasq. And a rebuilt TUI that draws in your terminal's own colours.

What if PHP didn't need an interpreter to run? No PHP installation. No external runtime dependencies. Just a native executable. Meet Elephc 🐘 PHP compiled to native machine code. Built in Rust. elephc.dev

Nice work! If you're open to it, it's relatively easy to switch out, our new offering might help you save even more money vs. SES. and we officially support marketing use-cases. AWS can be a little bit strict with who they allow, so one abuse ticket can shut off sending which can be a pain to deal with. Can also make sure you've got everything set up correctly too.

So many people asked me to make it open-source, so here you go: MailCheap — Self-hosted newsletters on Amazon SES: 💸 $0.10 per 1,000 emails ✍️ Editor with live preview 📰 Multiple newsletters 📝 Signup forms + API 🌐 Public archive 📊 Stats & growth charts 🧹 List cleanup 📬 Bounce + spam protection → github.com/marclou/mailcheap 92% cheaper than Beehiiv (for me). Have fun!
Bye bye Beehiiv 👋 I vibe-coded my own newsletter platform: 📧 Campaign management w/ editor 🖥️ Web archives (newsletter.marclou.com) 🔗 API support 🫧 List cleanup, deliverability reports It took a few prompts with Opus 5.5. I left Beehiiv because they raised prices for the 3rd time in 2 years. - My first yearly bill was $1,000. - My future bill would have been $4,000. Now I'm using AWS SES + MongoDB, and I will pay less than $300/year. Newsletter platforms charge per subscriber, when in fact the real cost is the number of emails sent. Subscribers will naturally become inactive, so you end up paying more for something that hurts your deliverability (sending to dormant subscribers = spam trap). So I've set a cleanup cron job for my newsletter alternative. It marks inactive subs as dormant, sends one last re-engaging email, and stops emailing them. Money saved. Deliverability increased. I also gain a priceless feature: Freedom. I can change the UI, add features, connect all my apps - anything is possible with just a prompt. I'm replacing Resend next. I love it, but it's very expensive ($400/mo)

Bun's AoT experiments seem to go the "easy" route: - Compile natively what is easy to compile - Stay dynamic with everything else. - Be strict about what you can compile While this makes sense on paper, it does not work in reality. With Perry, we tried this at first too: "Compile the hot, statically typed path and keep the rest dynamic" In reality, there is always some function that reaches into the dynamic part and will stay slow. If you want to compile JavaScript/TypeScript, you have to compile it all. The dynamic "escape hatch" will cost you more long-term than it gains. Alternatively, we all collectively write wonderful TypeScript, publish it with Types, and rewrite 99% of npm packages. 😅 To be fair: I don't blame them, and they are kinda stuck with JSC, so there is a ceiling to what they can do. But you _can_ actually do it; check out how far Perry has come: perryts.com
