tying britain's wealth to property was one of the biggest mistakes we made. stop building homes and of course prices inflate. then we called the inflation "wealth" and spent 30 years protecting it.
so now we've got pensioners sitting in £600k semis on £12k a year, and 30 year olds on £80k who can't buy one. everyone's rich on paper and nobody's got any money.
the house you live in should never have been your primary investment asset. it's now people's inheritance, pension, wealth. but it was the easiest way for a country to feel rich without building anything.
