It’s the opposite of the Sky News situation. The Murdochs own Sky News Australia but not the name Sky News, which the UK parent no longer wants to license. The Murdochs no longer own Fox Sports Australia but they still own the name Fox and don’t want to license it.

We're going back to the simplistic, over-dramatic, exaggerated, almost pantomime style of acting and facial expressions that we saw in old timey silent film with video skits on social media because they know the video will be watched with the sound off.

The correct answer is you do both. A low-cost weekly serial made for BBC and YouTube starring a numbered Doctor. And three annual 90 min minute blockbuster “movies” or mini-series starring a guest Doctor (eg. McGann), made for premium tv and streaming. No formal crossover.

I’d LOVE Doctor Who to return to 13 episodes when it does return. But it will never happen. We got to be prepared for likely a very budget version of the show. It’ll either be 6 45 minute episodes or maybe even the Sherlock style of 3 90 minute episodes.
