It looks like the people of Gauteng may eventually get the DA administration they want. But the people of Soweto must brace themselves: the days of dodging electricity payments may be numbered. The DA has made its position clear, you pay for electricity, and if you don't pay for services, don't expect service delivery. That is the kind of administration Gauteng may be signing up for. Be careful what you wish for!

We had an ANC councillor for the past 5 years. She blocked everyone on whatsapp who questioned her, deleted herself from community groups and at times of crisis was nowhere to be heard from. Today DA won the ward.

I can’t believe you guys are making me defend the DA. Resources aside, there hasn’t really been a party that can honestly say they were as present and as engaging for MONTHS like Helen and co in Jozi. Also, she made a “sensible”argument for competency as to why you should vote for her even if you don’t like her. It’s a single, isolated issue that the “clever blacks” can compromise on (on the short term). And it worked. Who can confidently say they’ve been mobilising their supporters and growing them over the last 6+ months??
