As we navigate this shifting landscape, it's clearer than ever that big tech platforms must be in the hands of responsible owners who prioritize user safety, uphold true freedom of speech, and create a fairer economic model. It was great to talk to Martin Bedford on @LBCNews News this am about the possible ban and future of Tik Tok in the US.  And why WeAre8 is backing Frank McCourt's Project Liberty bid.  We need the big tech platforms to be in the hands of responsible owners who can offer a safe space, promote true freedom of speech and a fairer economic model where users share in the billions of ad revs these platforms are paid to reach us. It is time for people to reclaim social and economic freedom.

There are no guidelines that meta have provided. I think it will be a ‘free for all’. Everything and anything will be allowed with no context. As the publishers told me - it’s not like the protections were any good or worked before. The thing that made me laugh though is their fact checkers blocked one publishers monetization for a month because they had a meme that joked that Lady Gaga was the Virgin Mary and they literally said they had published unverified news that Jesus’s mother was a pop singer.

This is a very damaging move for individuals and society as a whole.  Of all ages and stages in their lives.  Zuckerberg's position does not encourage freedom, but simply further fuels the control and division that big tech has used to dominate and monetize us as the largest unpaid workforce in human history.  He is suppressing mass voices, elevating a few and dividing people even more by controlling what we see and how we feel. This decision - which he openly admits will bring ‘more toxic content to the platform’ - gives him even more control to make more money from the people; worse, he's hiding this in the name of free speech. True freedom is when the algorithms are unlocked and people are in control of who they see and who sees them. Real freedom of speech is when people are protected from toxic abuse and every voice gets heard. And true economic freedom comes when the billions of dollars from advertisers is shared with hundreds of millions of people. At WeAre8, we bring true freedom and economic liberation to the people - the new world of unlocked algorithms and economic sharing.
