Very excited to learn that optogenetics has been awarded to Nobel Prize. This enabling technology has transformed light from an observatory to a modulatory tool for biological studies, and also one that has shaped my own research career in the past decade! Congratulations to Karl Deisseroth, Peter Hegemann, and Georg Nagel.
For those less familiar with the field: optogenetics lets us use pulses of light to turn specific proteins, and entire biological processes, on and off with extraordinary precision in time and space. It's changed how we study the brain, signaling pathways, and now holds real promise for medicine.
