Looking at the replies here, I can't help but to come up with a baseball analogy.
Today's average UFC is the MMA equivalent of baseball fans choosing a Little League game with 25 runs scored over a 1-0 World Series game.
The skill, technique, strategy and level of competition don't matter as much anymore. People just want knockouts, blood and nonstop action.
A technical five-round chess match between elite fighters gets called boring, while two unranked guys swinging wildly for 15 minutes get praised as an all-time classic.
It's not about appreciating the sport anymore. It's about being entertained by the spectacle.
And the UFC is increasingly catering to that audience.
Full disclosure, I don't mind two mid-level fighters having a bar fight on the early prelims. I just don't expect 12 fights like that on every UFC card.
Quality matters to me, but I understand the average fan's perspective. In an era of short highlights and TikTok clips, I get why people gravitate toward instant action over technical mastery, but I find it sad.
