Boating and boaters: I have heard it said that the two happiest days in a boat owners life are the day they buy the boat and the day they sell it. I think this might be true for those who probably should not ever own a boat. Those who buy a boat thinking it would be romantic to sail into the sunset, those who think it would be a great write-off for business, or a second home deduction, those who cannot fix things themselves and have to hire out everything from changing lightbulbs to washing down the hull and changing the oil. In the years that I towed and salvaged boats for a living, I saw many of these people. Dead batteries, out of fuel, on the rocks, no charts, and knot a clew (sailor joke there). I believe that if you buy a boat, you should be ready to learn everything about it, study about engines, drive systems, rigging, sails, charts, rules of the road ESPECIALLY rules of the road. Understand how the electronics work, RTFM! Use your RADAR when it's sunny outside. Those who go into it with the idea that boating is all rosy summer days and romantic sails into the sunset with a cocktail will be gravely disappointed. I have met folks who bought a sailboat, having never been on a boat before and expected to sail around the world in a few weeks of training. They tend to be the most disappointed that it was harder than it looked on TV. I love the movie Captain Ron, it's in my top 3. But it is so un-realistic how they took a near wreck of a boat and made it bristol while sailing it in the Caribbean. I can't do any project without 3 trips to Englund Marine. I'm not saying don't go boating or be scared off by this, but at least do your research and learn what you are getting into. YouTube is not going to save you in the fog with rocks nearby. I have loved with a passion every boat I have ever owned (well except one that was left on my hands that I had to cut up for scrap). I cried when we sold my first big boat, the Carver 32', to move up to the 36' and I miss that boat too, when I moved aboard the big workboat. Boating is my full time job and I love it. I think it takes a special kind of insanity to do what I do. Our friend John just bought a near basket case tugboat built in 1944, he has that insanity in spades. I have owned in my life first at 12 years old, an 8 foot fiberglass over plywood dinghy that was powered by oars or a small electric trolling motor. a 13' FB over wood with 5.5hp johnson 5 different Jet Ski or PWC's 3 inflatables under 10 feet 2 inflatables at 15' with 50HP outboards 2 RIB's 21' a 19' sailboat that I raised up from the bottom and the owner gave it to me and I sold it 30 minutes later for $100. Another 14' sailboat that was given to us that was scrapped. A 16' aluminum skiff with a jet outboard 2 21' Triumphs CRMA workboats A 26' twin aluminum cruiser 32' Carver Mariner 36' Carver Mariner 42' Canoe Cove and my current full time job, the 80' workboat charter. edit...and another 15' inflatable, with a 40hp. 24, now 25, boats over the years, I have a special version of insanity. So...why am I looking on YachtWorld right now...LOL Happy Boating Captain Ron.

Tomorrow we're releasing a full UATX course for free: all 19 lectures of Professor Isabella Reinhardt's Rise and Fall of Ancient Rome, filmed in class with our students. It runs from Rome's mythical founding to the Third Century Crisis. It ends on a question the class spent a whole session arguing about: did Rome ever really fall?

Happy Birthday, Hillary. 79 years young. Can't say the same for anyone who crossed your path. Here's to many more years. For you, anyway. Bill, I'd skip the cake.

I'm sure Elon appreciates that you post on his site and generate all this advertising income for him. Do you have any idea how retarded you come across doing this? I mean, flat out dumber than a field of turnips, the shear dedication to being wrong and stupid is almost admirable, and you keep lowering the bar and still limbo under it. @stephenking Go back to blusky where your insanity is appreciated.

Weather/location depression is a thing. Less than a week in AZ and my mood has lifted, my diet has changed, I can feel some weight is already gone and I'm walking a mile every day. and I can buy guns... So I have that going for me, which is nice. Up at 6, made breakfast, already rewired the pedestal for my travel trailer from 50amp to 30. Leaving in a bit to pick up a coffee table I found on FBM. SUNSHINE! Happy Sunday frens and GM

I'm thinking about all of the Elon hate going around, with the "take SpaceX from him" BS, and I worry what the plan is. All of these useful idiot low level politicians who are being told en masse to attack Elon, and the other idjits who latch on to the idea, have no clue what they are participating in. Maybe their plan is to poke the tiger hard enough and often enough that Elon lashes out, thus giving them a reason and legal avenue to arrest him. I understand fully the frustration felt when getting attacked like this, and the desire to slap back, but that would open the door to legal action and as the good guys here in this world, we would have to abandon him if he took the kinetic route against these evil people. As much as I would like to see them get spanked..hard, it is not a winning strategy. The dems have frequently used their mass might to intimidate and attack, the masters declare what they want and the minions rush to action. The only good solution here is for Elon to ignore the barbs, perhaps censor them here on X, it's his right to do that, and soldier on. The Dems are also quick to discard a strategy when it's not working, so waiting this out until they get tired of it, might be the best thing. What do you think @elonmusk ?

Get it? Got it? Good. next question.
Correct. Using Starlink, a civilian commercial service, for offensive drone strikes to kill people has never been allowed, nor should it be. Starshield, a different system, is controlled by the US government. What they decide to do is up to them. Ukraine military violated Starlink terms of service and used it for offensive drone strikes to kill people. That loophole was closed last week. Starlink remains critical to the defense of Ukraine, as it is the only system that cannot be jammed or blown up, at least for now. Were Starlink to be turned off, the Ukrainian front line would collapse immediately. This is NOT a threat, it is simply a statement of fact. Starlink was also crucial to preventing Russia from overrunning Ukraine in the early days of the war, as all other means of communication were destroyed or jammed by Russia. SpaceX has done more to defend Ukraine than any private company on Earth BY FAR. That said, I have nothing but UTTER CONTEMPT for the virtue-signaling evil warmongers who push for endless slaughter and offer no realistic solution to the conflict. May you burn in hell. End of story.

anyone ever try to order from lowes and have it delivered? so you understand my pain when I order $856 worth of lumber, a countertop, hardware, some cleaning supplies... 3 hours later, one small bucket shows up. Everything else during checkout magically switched itself to curbside store pickup. They paid a delivery driver, not theirs, an uber type subcontractor, to deliver one empty 3 gallon bucket. Where is DOGE when you need them. @lowes are you hearing this? Your website SUCKS Your AI phone assistant sucks too.

Whelp, I emptied the truck this morning and went and got my stuff, I park in pro so I can load, they send me to cust service, who then dig around, and send me back to pro when they finally find the order. At least everything was there, the 2x4's were perfect and straight (fk all you idiots saying PICK YOUR OWN LUMBER THEY WILL SCREW YOU). They took another $50 off the order total and I still have the gift card for another $50. Then, for the rest of the day, I built this bench.

The saga continues, now it's just a comedy show. They sent an email at 2am to tell me it's delayed till the next day. but sent me a gift card for $50 for my troubles.

The plan to defeat idiot leftists is as follows. Just let them speak in public.
Democrat Nominee for U.S. Senate in Texas James Talarico: “What if we ran our world like we run a kindergarten classroom? Because at the end of the day, aren't we all just really big kindergartners?”
