🚌 **BIG CHANGES COULD BE COMING TO ALEXANDRIA'S DASH BUS SERVICE — AND RIDERS HAVE A SAY!**
Alexandria's DASH Board voted 7–4 to advance **$2.5 million in proposed bus service cuts**, potentially affecting thousands of riders across the city.
But here's the important part: **NOTHING IS FINAL YET.**
🚍 **Here's what could change:**
• **Line 31:** Would no longer continue through Old Town to Braddock Road Metro.
• **Line 30:** Would lose its connection to Van Dorn Metro.
• **Lines 33 & 34:** Reduced off-peak frequency and changes in Potomac Yard.
• **Line 102:** No more midday service.
The proposed cuts follow a multimillion-dollar budget crisis at DASH, including an accounting error that obscured approximately $3.3 million in overspending.
📅 **PUBLIC HEARING: NOVEMBER 12, 2026**
If approved, changes could begin January 31, 2027.
💬 **Do you ride DASH? Which route would affect you most?**
The Zebra Press breaks down what happened at the board meeting, why the cuts are being considered, and what riders can do before a final decision.

The Navy traces its birthday to October 13, 1775—making today its 251st anniversary.
Somewhere tonight, a sailor is standing watch. And somewhere back home, someone is counting the days until that sailor walks through the door. 🇺🇸⚓
Today, October 13, we celebrate the United States Navy’s 251st birthday—and the generations of Americans who have answered the call to serve.
Born in 1775, before our nation declared its independence, the Navy’s story reaches across centuries. But its heart has always been its people.
Behind every uniform is a person. Behind every deployment are birthdays, anniversaries, holidays and ordinary afternoons that can never quite be made up. We owe those who serve—and those who wait for them—a gratitude that lasts well beyond this one day.
Here in Alexandria, Navy service is part of the story of so many neighbors, friends and families. Today, The Zebra Press salutes our active duty sailors, reservists, veterans and the loved ones who stand beside them.
We remember, with particular reverence, those who never came home. Their absence is still felt. Their service is not forgotten.
To everyone who has worn the uniform of the United States Navy: Thank you for your courage, your commitment and the years of your life you have given to our country.
May those at sea return safely to the people who love them. May our veterans know how deeply they are appreciated. And may we always remember that the freedom to gather around our own dinner tables comes with responsibilities—to one another, to our country and to those who serve it.
Happy 251st birthday, U.S. Navy. With respect, pride and grateful hearts, we salute you. ❤️🤍💙
Have a sailor in your family, or a Navy veteran you would like to honor? Share their name or a memory below. Let’s give them an Alexandria thank-you.

🚗 MOVE THE CAR!
Alexandria roadwork is scheduled this week, Oct. 13–16, and the City is warning drivers to watch closely for temporary No Parking signs.
Repaving is planned on:
• North Beauregard Street — Lincolnia Road to Morgan Street
• North Overlook Drive — Halcyon Drive to the end
• North Chambliss Street — Fillmore Avenue to the end
• West Alexandria Avenue — Commonwealth Avenue to the end
Concrete work is also planned on North Beauregard Street between Morgan Street and Reading Avenue, with sidewalk work on Lynnhaven Drive between Wilson Avenue and Evans Lane.
The important part: vehicles left in posted work zones may be ticketed or towed.
Schedules can shift because of weather, equipment or other projects, so check the temporary signs on your block before leaving the car.
Please share this with anyone who lives or parks in these areas.
