DH has good local news coverage. Also more news and less opinion pieces, less ads than the others.

Bengaluru last elected its ward councillors in 2015. Since then the city has spent about ₹38,455 crore a year with nobody local to blame for the pothole outside your gate. The ward elections are coming soon, hopefully 🤞. A few of us are building something for them. 🧵

I am not sure whether AI will disrupt education or not, but I can’t wait for it to disrupt PTMs.

Affection is real, but the animal was tortured to be domesticated and forced into temple ceremonies for life. This is not how "nature is a way of life" should be practiced.

Lions didn’t vanish just because of the British. Indian princes and elites were equally into the hunting game - same era, same guns, same attitude. I am sure along with Junagadh's nawab, Britishers too played a role in their conservation.

Most of the police staff are round the clock handling "bandobast" for VIP visit. I was hoping a strong leadership at top can rein in this excess, but I guess wait till 2047

IAS officer: Jalwa hai hamara yaha pe
There is a video of a district-level IAS officer visiting a temple surrounded by armed police. In another case, an IAS-IPS couple posted in a district had 56 personnel deployed at their bungalow. These are not isolated incidents. District-level IAS and IPS officers routinely deploy 25 to 40 personnel at their residences, along with 3 to 4 government vehicles and drivers. They routinely block traffic for their movements. Why is this treated so casually in India? This is not privilege. It is misuse of public resources and abuse of authority. Misappropriation of public money and misuse of government personnel, vehicles, security, funds or any other public resource for personal luxury, status or convenience must invite immediate and severe punishment. Anyone found doing this should be removed from public office. They are public servants, not rulers. How can they serve citizens with this mindset? They are unfit for public service. What is shocking is how normal this feudal culture has become. Society is conditioned to treat it as the natural privilege of office. It is not dignity of office. It is VIP culture built on taxpayers’ money and the humiliation of citizens. Then comes the myth that clearing the UPSC makes someone universally intelligent. Rote learning of intermediate-level textbooks and clearing a deliberately difficult examination does not create expertise, yet the system gives them lifelong authority and privilege. That they are not experts is evident from the condition of public services despite their rule over district administration since independence. The police force, one of the most corrupt and insensitive institutions, is totally controlled by the IPS. This is feudalism at the heart of the system: one examination, lifelong authority, extraordinary privilege and presumed expertise over everyone else. That is not how a strong democracy works.

Participants from the 5K, 10K, 21K and 42K races were funnelled onto the same route, leaving no space for run. The stadium finish area felt like Kumbh Mela. Water and crowd management are basic safety requirements, not optional extras. 2/2

Horribly organised running event. @Wipro and @NEBSportsEPL, this was easily one of the worst-run events in India. All hydration stations between 10 and 18 kms of the half marathon—and 30 and 39 kms of the full marathon—were out of water. 1/2
Running the @Wipro Bengaluru Marathon was an absolute logistical disaster that fell woefully short of @procamintl and AIMS standards. Running out of drinking water completely past the 10km mark and recycling unwashed plastic cups are severe public health hazards.

Worst Traffic hit nightmare Stretches of #Bengaluru East & SouthEast, with a crawling speed of 5KM/hour or More & Average commuting time spent by School Kids is 2 hour or more are , based on the listing by aggrived parents 👇 Local MLA @MALimbavali , Local MP @PCMohanMP , @GBAChiefComm , @acpwfieldtrf , must act seriously. Request CM @DKShivakumar & Minister @krishnabgowda to ruthlessly demolish Road , SWD encroachments irrespective of Small or big buildings.
●Considering , Huge, 42 Big Private Schools , 1000 School buses, 40,000 Students, in East #Bengaluru Varthur- Gunjur-Dommasandra stretch, all commuting mostly on same time, only permanent solution is of "Staggered School timings" . ●Start schools from 06:30 AM & stagger it across schools, as done in many KVs Inc. KV Malleshwaram ●Presently, Traffic issue is well attended by @DCPTrEastBCP @dcpwhitefield @wftrps 👏, however the massive No. of school buses poses a big challenge. @DKShivakumar @krishnabgowda 📸 @TOIBengaluru

Kafkaesque doesn’t even begin to describe this.
#Pune How bad of a rule is this, though? Think about it: an infrastructure project which will improve the quality of life for people cannot be started because of MLC elections, where general citizens are not even a part of the voting process. Make it make sense.

BJP is coming up with this parallel govt structure of ward level committee of "prabhari" etc to insulate people from Govt (corporates etc). How useful are these task force and WhatsApp groups when there is no funds to do anything significant? Do we really need them?
