How is Bitcoin Adoption Progressing in the Democratic Republic of Congo? 🇨🇩
Bitcoin adoption in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is still in its early stages, but meaningful progress is taking shape through education and mining.
While the ecosystem remains small, two projects are laying important foundations by expanding access to Bitcoin knowledge and leveraging the country's abundant energy resources.
Key Projects Driving Adoption:
1. Gwensas Mining: Gwensas Mining is helping position the DRC as a potential player in the global Bitcoin mining industry. The project uses Bitcoin mining to monetize surplus energy, demonstrating how stranded or underutilized power can be transformed into economic value.
X handle: @GwensasM
2. Mwasi na Bitcoin: Mwasi na Bitcoin is a grassroots initiative dedicated to empowering Congolese women through Bitcoin education and community-based microfinance.
X handle: @mwasi_na49644
Although the DRC's Bitcoin ecosystem is still emerging, initiatives like Gwensas Mining and Mwasi na Bitcoin demonstrate that adoption is growing from two complementary directions: technical infrastructure and grassroots education.
Together, they are laying the groundwork for a stronger and more inclusive Bitcoin ecosystem in the country.

Proud of what @PatriciaZamwan2 is doing here. Once upon a time DR Congo’s currency was stronger than the USD, but the Nixon shock & former President Mobutu depleting DR Congo’s reserves to the tune of $50B for opulence sent the country into a debt spiral. Merci, Satoshi.

How is Bitcoin adoption progressing in the Democratic Republic of Congo? 🇨🇩
Bitcoin adoption in the Democratic Republic of Congo has been gradual but steady, driven by practical use cases, local education, and mining‑linked energy projects. While the country is still early in its Bitcoin journey, the ecosystem is growing through grassroots communities, women‑focused financial education, and infrastructure such as mining operations.
Key drivers of Bitcoin Adoption in DRC:
🔷 Gwensas Mining (@GwensasM) – Gwensas Mining operates large‑scale Bitcoin mining infrastructure in the Democratic Republic of Congo, including within Virunga National Park, using energy valorization to support both mining and local development.
🔷 Mwasi na Bitcoin (@mwasi_na49644) - Mwasi na Bitcoin is a community-led initiative empowering Congolese women through Bitcoin education, hands-on workshops, practical daily-use training, and microfinance mentorship.
These projects show that Bitcoin adoption in the DRC is moving beyond speculation toward real‑world utility—through mining‑linked infrastructure and women‑centered financial empowerment laying the foundation for a more inclusive, Bitcoin‑enabled economy.
