fable whaddya got
> Brownmiller's Against Our Will (1975) made the foundational move: rape is not deviance but function — the mechanism by which all men keep all women in a state of fear
> MacKinnon and Dworkin then extended the structural analysis from violence to desire itself: under conditions of male dominance, heterosexual desire is shaped by and expressive of that dominance, so the line between wanted and unwanted, seduction and coercion, is not a bright line but a gradient on a single axis.
> Most prohibitions are specifiable ex ante — you can know before acting whether you're speeding. Harassment doctrine makes the moral and legal status of an advance depend on its reception, which the actor cannot fully know in advance. Schrödinger's harasser is not a Tumblr exaggeration of the law; it is the law's actual epistemic structure
> But the phrase [male gaze] was too good, and its vernacular career (accelerating through the 2000s film-blog era into 2010s Tumblr) stripped the apparatus and kept the moral charge: male looking itself became a species of act, something done to the looked-at. This is the move that extends the harassment framework backward from advance to desire — you can now be complicit before you've spoken.
> The reception context did the rest — an anxious, rule-seeking young man reads [Schrodinger's Rapist] not as "here is why she seems guarded" but as "you are, until proven otherwise, indistinguishable from a rapist in the eyes of any woman you approach, and imposing that assessment on her is itself a cost you're inflicting."
> Comment 171 (December 2014) is a first-person report of what the composite messaging does to its most conscientious recipients: Aaronson describes spending his youth in terror that his desire was inherently predatory, to the point of asking a psychiatrist about chemical castration.
> anti-harassment messaging is a broadcast signal, but its absorption is inversely proportional to the recipient's need for it. Men high in conscientiousness and anxiety — rule-followers, scrupulosity-prone — internalize it as a total prohibition; the men actually doing the harassing aren't reading Shapely Prose and wouldn't update if they were.
> the motte-and-bailey point: "nobody is saying you can't ask women out" (motte) coexists with an enormous accumulated discourse in which unwanted advances are creepy, creepiness is a moral failing rather than an aesthetic misfortune, and — here's the trap — whether an advance is unwanted is largely a function of the approacher's attractiveness and status, which he cannot reliably self-assess and which it is also forbidden to reason about explicitly.
> #MeToo (2017) added enforcement salience, with the Aziz Ansari case (January 2018) as the crucial boundary dispute: a bad, clumsy, pushy date, narrated in the idiom of assault. The intra-feminist fight over that piece (Flanagan, Weiss, et al. versus babe.net's defenders) was precisely over whether ordinary failed heterosexual initiative was now classifiable within the predation frame.
> Now, the implicit worldview — since you asked what was transmitted rather than just by whom. I'd decompose it into four load-bearing assumptions. One: male desire is default-suspect — continuous with violence, differing in degree, so that the burden of proof sits on the desiring party before any act occurs. Two: the moral status of an approach is determined ex post by its reception — intention is inadmissible, which for the scrupulous means no advance can ever be known-safe. Three: consent is the entire ethical content of sexuality, conceived contractually and ideally verbally — which quietly criminalizes ambiguity, and ambiguity is the actual medium of courtship; flirtation just is the artful maintenance of deniability on both sides. Four, and least noticed: female desire vanishes from the model entirely. Women in this framework do not want; they grant or withhold, assess threats, bear risk.

The Us administration must be purged of congressmen who serve the interests of Israel and Greece and who could influence the administration. The Us should be governed by loyal, dedicated, and patriotic citizens who serve the interests of the citizens of the United States.

Much of the war between the sexes is actually an internal war between our millennia-old biological firmware and new social norms that were invented 5 minutes ago.

Bro what if we did this funny social experiment where we took all of our money and gave it to mentally disabled violent people and then made them watch movies that exclusively portrayed us as evil and them as the sole deserving inheritors of the fruits of our labors haha

This is why conservatives feel like they are on ideological death ground. If they don’t fight back, they lose all institutions in the culture and their value systems disappear within a generation. I argue this is why they aren’t interested in bridge building or depolarizing.

One recurring feature of MeToo-type reporting is the paragraph where the accuser describes her thought process in deciding between taking the crime to Man Court (police) and seeking justice (conviction) or Woman Court (media) and seeking justice (awareness)

even if their mission were "good" they'd have earned our contempt by utter failure

USA. A Mexican restaurant. We had not yet ordered anything, and the food was already arriving.
Chips. Salsa. Unrequested. Free.
I stopped the waiter. "We have not earned these."
"They just come with the table, man."
They come with the TABLE. In my land, hospitality is a debt. Every gift creates an obligation, weighed carefully, returned in the proper season with interest of feeling. Here, the gift arrives before you have even proven you can pay for dinner.
This is not an appetizer. This is a declaration: we trust you. Eat.
I ate with the gravity the moment deserved. And then — I must report this calmly — the basket emptied, and a new one appeared.
"Did we…?"
"Refill," the waiter said. "It's bottomless."
Bottomless. They have wells of salsa. The supply lines of this nation are beyond anything my ancestors imagined.
My friend warned me. "Don't fill up on chips, dude."
Too late. I had accepted three baskets. Honor demanded each one be finished — an unfinished gift is an insult. By the time my actual food arrived, I was a ruined man.
I was not hungry. I was not comfortable. I had been defeated by a courtesy.
Generosity that arrives before the request cannot be repaid. It can only be survived.
I know the rule now. I have made my peace with the basket. One basket. Two at the most.
Who am I deceiving. There is no number of baskets I would refuse. The trust of a nation is in that salsa, and I intend to honor all of it.

Leftists are utterly incapable of understanding that there already is a class consciousness and political education in this country. We received that education at their hands over the last 12 years, and the class consciousness that developed as a result led us to conclude that they were the enemy.
Middle America harbors a deep and almost indescribable level of contempt for the Progressive managerial class that runs this country's formerly prestigious and now utterly compromised institutions.
Of course, Leftists will never admit this. They'll simply try to say that "billionaires" or "the 1%" are deluding or manipulating "the people" into blaming the litany of sacred victim classes that Hasan rattled off in that tweet.
These people will never concede the fact that enormous swaths of the general public reject Leftism not because they've been told to do so, but because they have years of lived experiences seeing with their own two eyes that Leftist activists and agitators are the elites ruining this country.
Hasan is utterly blind to this. He can't see that millions of Americans hate him, personally, and everyone like him. Whether he wants to admit it or not, Americans do not see him as a revolutionary outsider. They see guys like him as the ruling regime that they want to overthrow.

Tourism bans, Airbnb bans, these are bad ideas
Hypertourism should be taxed into manageable levels with Pigovian tools like this 👇
You don't need a ban, you need an aggressive but thoughtful tax regime that moderates hypertourism & yields wide public benefit

I’m a chemist. I need to say this - because it’s getting dangerous out there. The biggest health myth in the world isn’t about vaccines.
Or GMOs. Or fluoride.
It’s the root of all of them.
It’s called chemophobia - and it’s killing science.
Fear of “chemicals” now drives vaccine rejection, GMO bans, food hysteria, and entire political movements.
From tampons to tap water, people have been taught to fear chemistry - the very thing that keeps us alive.
Chemophobia tells us:
“Natural is good.”
“Synthetic is bad.”
That’s a lie.
Botulinum toxin is 100% natural and one of the deadliest molecules known.
Aspirin is synthetic and life-saving.
We’ve gone from banning harmful substances for good reason…to banning safe, well-tested molecules for emotional reasons.
You’ve seen the slogans:
“If you can’t pronounce it, don’t eat it.”
“Paraben-free.”
“Clean beauty.”
They sound empowering. But they’re not science - they’re marketing.
And they’re making the world dumber, poorer, and sicker.
Your body doesn’t care if a molecule comes from a plant or a lab.
Vitamin C is vitamin C.
Formaldehyde is formaldehyde and your body makes more of it every day than any vaccine ever could.
Dose matters. Source doesn’t.
This fear isn’t harmless.
It shapes public policy.
It blocks innovation.
It raises food prices.
It slows down cancer treatments.
Chemophobia is now mainstream and it’s costing lives.
Scientists aren’t losing because we’re wrong. We’re losing because fear spreads faster than facts.
Because influencers sell fear for clicks. Because lawyers monetize doubt.
And because scientists are too tired to fight back. So here’s my message, as a chemist and as a citizen:
Learn how toxicology works.
Call out chemical fear-mongering.
Support policies based on evidence, not emotion.
Chemistry isn’t the enemy.
It’s the reason you have clean water, safe food, and modern medicine.
If we let fear win, we lose all of it.
