ראש הממשלה בנימין נתניהו נפגש הלילה עם יו"ר מפלגת הציבור החרדי מוטי לייטנר וביקש ממנו לפרוש מהתמודדות בבחירות. מקור בציבור החרדי אמר ל"הארץ" כי בכל מקרה הם מתכוונים להתמודד עד הסוף. נתניהו ביקש בימים האחרונים לפגוש גם את הרב דוד לייבל, שמזוהה באופן לא רשמי עם המפלגה, וכן עם המועמד שמוצב במקום השני בה, אשר פריידי. השניים סירבו להיפגש. ראש הממשלה, סמוטריץ' ואנשיהם מפעילים לאחרונה לחצים גדולים על אנשי המפלגה לפרוש. כדי להשפיע על לייטנר להסכים לפרישה הציעו למנותו לתפקיד פרויקטור לציבור החרדי. לייטנר דרש ערבויות שהמפלגות החרדיות יתנו לכך יד ולא יטרפדו את זה מיד לאחר הבחירות. משלא קיבל ערבויות, דחה את ההצעה. לייטנר הכריז באירוע של המפלגה במוצ"ש האחרון כי הם כבר נערכים ליום שאחרי הבחירות, ובכוונתם להקים תנועה ארצית ולהריץ רשימות גם ברשויות המקומיות (לייטנר באירוע במוצ"ש. צילום: אוליבייה פיטוסי, הארץ)
