In Japan, more and more restaurants are starting to charge different prices for foreign tourists and Japanese customers.
I understand that most Japanese people don’t speak English, so serving foreign visitors can take more time and may not be as efficient as serving local customers. But at the same time, charging extra simply because someone is a foreign tourist feels like it goes against the spirit of omotenashi—the Japanese tradition of wholehearted hospitality.
Restaurant owners who have introduced dual pricing often give reasons such as:
• It takes extra time to explain the menu and how to eat certain dishes in English.
• Hiring and training English-speaking staff costs more.
• Longer interactions reduce table turnover.
On the other hand, some businesses say they introduced it because of:
• Overtourism.
• The stronger purchasing power of foreign visitors due to the weak yen.
• The need to secure funds to maintain tourist facilities.
Personally, I feel a little conflicted. If a restaurant hires English-speaking staff, it’s because foreign visitors are already bringing in enough business to make that investment worthwhile. In other words, they must have decided that the benefits outweigh the costs.
That’s why it makes me a little sad to see foreign tourists being charged more simply because they’re visitors. If I were traveling abroad and found myself paying a higher price just because I was a foreigner, I think I’d feel disappointed too.
What do you all think about this?

At the end of 2024, I went through a breakup that shattered both my heart and my body.
The pain stayed with me for a long time, and moving forward felt incredibly difficult.
But I kept fighting, and that’s why I’m here today.
I truly hope this video can bring even a small ray of hope to anyone who is struggling right now.
And if you know someone who is going through a difficult time, I would be so grateful if you shared this video with them.

I saw someone who looked like Elon Musk, so I stared at him—and sure enough, he really did look like Elon Musk.
So I kept staring, and the more I looked, the more he still looked like Elon Musk.
At one point, I even wondered if it might actually be him, and while thinking, “Why would he be in Japan?”, I kept staring.
But then, when I saw him from the side, he didn’t look like Elon Musk at all.
I guess that kind of thing happens sometimes.
I was thinking about traveling to the U.S. next year, but then I started wondering… if they require five years’ worth of social media records, what are creators supposed to do? 🥹
I’ll be posting lots of past videos and photos on X that I’ve shared on other platforms too, so if you find something you like, I’d be really happy if you leave a comment or share it! 😆
This is what it looks like when a Japanese man wears a suit!
Yesterday was a wedding, so I wore the suit I bought this month especially for that day.
It had been a long time since I last wore a suit, but somehow, I feel like a suit is a kind of magical outfit — one that tightens your posture and makes you feel more confident.

I’m also posting here the video I shared on Instagram!
It’s a video that shows how, as someone living in Japan, I deeply value my connections with people all around the world.
I’d be so happy if you could share this video!
This year, I took on a big challenge for myself!
I started wearing glasses!
I used to think that glasses didn’t suit me and that there wasn’t a single pair that really looked good on me.
But this challenge gave me a fresh new feeling, and I’m really glad I decided to give it a try.
Which version of me do you prefer — with glasses or without?
Please be careful of this fake account!
It’s imitating my profile, so it looks very similar but this account is a fake and has been reposting my Facebook content without permission.
I’ve already reported it to X, but I’d really appreciate your cooperation in reporting it as well!
Lately, I’ve been thinking about how I should style my hair.
Which hairstyle do you like better?
1️⃣ A popular style in Japan — permed hair with the bangs down
2️⃣ Slightly permed hair with the bangs up
Let me know in the comments!
