Have you heard of @LorettaWhtsides? Along with @elonmusk and @JeffBezos but from an orthogonal perspective, Loretta Whitesides is one of the three most powerful voices authoring and influencing today’s space culture. Her new book SPACEKIND arrives Nov 9th on Amazon.

BREAKING: The Pentagon will deploy new counter-drone defenses to Cape Canaveral within weeks as the Space Force moves to protect America’s busiest launch site from small unmanned aircraft. The new capability will come from Joint Interagency Task Force 401, the Pentagon’s counter-drone organization, and integrate with defenses already operating at the spaceport, according to Defense One. The specific technology was not disclosed. Cape Canaveral’s commander said existing radars can detect aircraft ranging from a Cessna to a 747, but the base now needs coverage extending “down to a quadcopter.” The Cape supported 109 launches last year and is central to the White House’s push toward 1,000 annual U.S. launches and reentries by the end of the decade, making the ability to detect small drones an increasingly important layer of launch security.

End of a beautiful era👏🏽👏🏽🫡🚀
This morning’s @SpaceX mission from pad 40 was the last planned Falcon 9 Starlink launch from Florida (and it launched on the fleet leading booster!!), marking the end of an era for these launches on the East Coast. From here on, Starlink missions out of Florida will fly on Starship. The West Coast team will continue regularly launching Starlink from Vandenberg.   Super proud of this incredible team. You’ve made Falcon 9 the most reliable launch vehicle in history. You also helped build the largest low-Earth orbit satellite constellation providing connectivity to millions around the world, and you’ve set the foundation for what’s next.   In the last seven years, Falcon has flown ~260 Starlink missions from the Cape… can’t wait until we launch that and many more with Starship!

I caught this space jellyfish UFO effect just now from the @SpaceX rocket launch a few miles north of my house! Ice crystals from the Falcon 9 Merlin engines reflect light, creating this dramatic, alien image. A sonic boom a few minutes later provides the coup de grâce!
