Revisiting this scene from Heaven Burns Red chapter 3 today feels extremely poignant
Jun Maeda really put his heart and soul and true feelings into his writing and his decision to choose palliative care over treatment to focus on his creative work truly reflects his philosophy

You ruined my mood. So WHAT IF people play HSR? It's their CHOICE, their LIFE, and NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. No game is perfect, so stop trashing it just because you don't like it. Let people enjoy what they want, you fuckers.

this certainly isn't an easy decision to make and there's little reward to being a governing body of a niche speedrun comunity- but the penalty of a permanent ban leaves little room for change/growth
I hope the community can persist so that there are still playoffs happening 5 or 10 years from now
at that point, we will all be very different (hopefully better) people
it feels more reasonable to issue an indefinite ban and give EDCR (or whoever gets banned for that matter) the ability to appeal his ban every 1-2 years
I have no idea of his character or his desire to change and grow, but pushing someone towards that outcome seems to me to be what's best
