"An 1,800-year-old silver amulet found in a Roman-era grave near Frankfurt is being called one of the most important early Christian discoveries in Europe. The tiny silver capsule held a fragile rolled sheet of foil, buried beneath the chin of a man who lived between about A.D. 230 and 270, likely worn around his neck as a sign of faith. Researchers used high-resolution CT scans to digitally unroll the foil without destroying it, revealing a Latin inscription that invokes Jesus Christ as the Son of God. The text includes early Christian worship language and echoes Scripture about every knee bowing and every tongue confessing Christ. The discovery matters because it is considered the oldest known evidence of Christianity found north of the Alps. In a region where public Christian practice was still risky and earlier evidence was scarce, one buried believer carried the name of Jesus with him to the grave, leaving behind a witness that still speaks nearly 1,800 years later."
