Seinfeld Today: Elaine spends six hours in a testing line, Jerry finds his new girlfriend less attractive with a mask off, George attends an anti-vax rally so he can get "super-immunity," and Kramer hoards rapid tests.
getting fixated on "taxation is theft" is like
kiddie table politics
you get to sit with the commie utopians until you grow up and are ready to have real world conversations
All such tax takes bother me because they fail to account for how many network effects having educated people, healthy people, public roads, etc create.
The economy benefits from subsidizing education for everybody! Do you want to be surrounded by stupider people? Do you think the taxes you save won't be eaten into by the rising costs of dealing with stupider people?
In my dream city all the sidewalks and roads are just conveyer belts of increasing speed
the thing that gets people on transit isn’t free fares it’s not having to check a schedule. a bus that costs $2 and comes every 6 minutes will outperform a free bus that comes every 30 minutes every single time. frequency is the product. the fare is a rounding error
I just saw Running Man and yet days later I cannot picture Glen Powell's face. Everytime I try, it's either Ryan Gosling or Alex Skarsgard
I'm actually surprised the DoD doesn't just have its own labs working on this stuff. They really need to nationalize a company for it?
BREAKING: US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has threatened to cut Anthropic from the Pentagon's supply chain unless it agrees to its technology being used in "all lawful military applications."
This includes:
1. Hegseth demanding an answer from Anthropic by Friday
2. US threats to invoke the Defense Production Act over Anthropic
3. A meeting between Hegseth and Anthropic's CEO today
4. Anthropic expressing concerns about its models being used for lethal missions
Anthropic is back under pressure.

As someone who works in housing access for homeless people I’m so fucking tired of people defending antisocial behavior when 99% of homeless people are not antisocial and have no problem using structured housing. These housing units are limited and it’s not fair to the people willing to follow the minor rules imposed on living in them to ignore rules for a shockingly small group of people.
I know some nannies are better than others, but it sure is radicalizing watching this nanny to a 2ish year old who is sobbing uncontrollably in their stroller just repeat on loop:
"Stop. Why are you crying? There's nothing to cry about. I don't like it when you cry."
She was saying that when I walked in the playground and she was still saying that half an hour later when I walked out

It’s funny how it’s the opposite of what everyone says. Having kids is harder than ever before. Nooo, having kids is easier than ever before, but it’s harder than anything else in modern life.
Even if it were just "autocomplete," there's a certain level of fanciness at which it is impressive in its own right!

As a kid in the 1990s who was very into art (lots of drawing, painting classes, etc.) I fell in love with computer graphics. It felt like a world of endless possibility—especially as I started to understand code and mathematics.
One day I was excitedly showing a rendering I had made in Lightwave 3D to a much older family friend. He pointed at a half-assed sketch on my desk and said, “I’m a lot more impressed with that.” Meaning: I’m not impressed the computer “did that for you.” I was a bit heartbroken, and felt misunderstood, because I had put enormous effort into my 3D creation. I wasn’t just trying to “cheat at art.”
I’m can’t help but think we are making the same mistake in the way we talk about generative models. Sure, there will be a lot of lazy users, like people making flying 3d logos in the 1990s. But if we ignore the hype and the corporate sales pitch, there are also undoubtedly intelligent young people putting tremendous effort into using these tools in unintended, creative ways—because they see in them a world of beautiful and fascinating possibilities.

Without going too far down the rabbit hole, I'm trying to say that it's understandable and in my mind also okay that things are black and white to some degree? When people feel betrayed they tend to react negatively, and AI betrays the expectation of effort to a lot of viewers.

Despite productivity gains from gen AI, I've so far not seen a slowdown of incoming design and development freelance work.
I'd like to think that when craft matters, people will still value the very thoughtful and pointed human design process.
And people wonder what creatives might do with AI tooling
During my day off took newest @claudeai for a spin. After about an hour of back and forth, built a thing I've wanted to make for 10 years. Building a city with voice. Enjoy and pls send me screenshots / video of what you make!
