A person turns a corner eventually, and I think I’ve hit the sweet spot of my time. Not because I turned out to be anybody special, and not because I checked off all the world's obligations. I’ve given up on being anything other than myself, and I’m fine with that.
There are things in this world I can work for, plan for, put effort into aside the toil of each day's duty. I asked for love, for health, for happiness, for everything that really mattered to my hearts.
I looked like I'd spent the afternoon arranging ikebana instead of lying on my back in the meadow, perfecting the art of emptying my head. There was only so much trigonometry I could take before I needed a wide open sky and fistful of wildflowers.
Nature's beauty comes as if she is God's daydream. She taught me to look closely at the world, and in doing so, I finally learned how to look kindly at myself. Naturally, nature's ally.
In the old world, survival was about adaptation. You grew thicker fur for the winter. You developed a sharper beak for the seeds. You played the game and you hoped the house didn't win. But as the climate collapsed and the oceans soured, the house stopped playing fair.
Centuries later, a jagged tooth of chrome and hubris where the final embers of humanity’s "Golden Age" flickered. They spent decades trying to map the soul, but ended up just stitching together biological anomalies that the natural world had spent eons trying to prevent.
They hadn't built a better human, and they hadn't engineered a better beast. They had opened a door to a biological tier that rendered humanity obsolete—a Mutant that viewed the food chain as a suggestion rather than a law.
They used to say the world ended with a roar. They were wrong. The end is much more elegant that arrives on the back of a crystalline thrum. It is an atmospheric takeover which now stand like jagged skeletons of polished jet.
No one knows where it came from, and perhaps our minds are too small to house the truth. Some say it was summoned by a grief too heavy for the world to carry, a psychic hemorrhage that finally tore a hole in the fabric of the mundane.
And if you listen long enough, you might begin to understand why they never gave it a name. Or worse— Why it never needed one. But this is the WDA, a creature that exists outside the reach of human vocabulary.
But listen, after everything you’ve been through (the stuff we don’t even need to talk about), I hope you realize that age is just a number. There’s so much beauty in the slow burn, and you’ve already outgrown the crowd in ways they can’t even imagine.
My only wish for you this year is that you stay authentic, keep loving hard, and finally find that inner peace you deserve. You’ve got a whole lot of life ahead of you.
Happy Birthday, my dear Karina.
Love you lots. 🖤
