A lifelong dictator whose legacy will be that of a totalitarian one who belittled his own people & deliberately crushed the economy. He intentionally suppressed national development & forced the migration of more than one million Eritreans out of a population of just 3.5 million.

Isaias's lack of reaction when Russia sold 12 fighter jets to Ethiopia, while he was still in Moscow, a deal that strengthened Ethiopia's position as a regional power, makes me suspect that he silently approved the arms sale. I wonder what he would’ve said if US was the one?🤔
Our Man In Russia Asks Russia To Lead, Again. In 2023, at St Petersburg, Russia, at the 2nd Russia-Africa Summit, President Isaias Afwerki--Champion of Self-Reliance--proposed a global strategy and to confront the hegemonic West and added: "Russia will have to lead this strategy." Why? Because “Russia will have to take the lead because Russia has been targeted.” He told them their own history since the end of the Cold War; mourned the loss of the Soviet Union as a catastrophic global tragedy (On health, real incomes, and everyday material abundance, the average Russian is better off in 2025 than in 1989. The Soviet advantages that many still value—greater equality, job security, and great-power status—came with systemic shortages that limited actual living standards. ) He also called for defined goals, detailed sectoral plans, and mobilization of resources. He claimed that Eritrea has detailed sectoral plans it has developed since 2020. In 2026, at the Kremlin, Russia, at the 3rd Russia-Africa Summit, President Isaias Afwerki--Champion of Self-Reliance--said: "Russia should take the lead.” Why? Because "Russia has the resources, technology, and industrial base." We also, apparently, need a new rules-based world order, apparently. Russia should propose a set of rules for African countries to implement programs across multiple sectors because, bless their heart, they are not capable of it even if they want to. Oh, well, same applies to Russia: it can’t lead even if it wants to (it doesn’t) because it is too focused on Russia. It is long past due for Isaias Afwerki to remember he is the President of Eritrea, not Africa. Put less politely, Africa does NOT see him as its leader notwithstanding all his ill advised pretensions to be one.

“A port seized by war would be no port at all: no insurer, no shipping line, no lender would touch it.” Only wise leaders would understand this fact!! @AbiyAhmedAli #IsayasAfwerki #Eritrea #Ethiopia
“A port seized by war would be no port at all: no insurer, no shipping line, no lender would touch it. A port leased by a ratified treaty, earning money for Eritrea every day an Ethiopian truck drives to it, creates the first institution in generations that profits when the other country prospers. That is how this cycle breaks. “Not when one side finally wins the argument about history. Not when two leaders embrace, marry their houses together, or applaud each other’s speeches. It breaks when both sides build something they would lose by returning to war.” A Peace That Does Not Require Trust By: Girmay Gebregzabhair ("Doshka") eritreanjournal.com/a-peace-…

Rarely in human history has a society sided with the very military that committed genocide against it, one that threw men and women off cliffs, bombed daycare centers and hospitals, and raped women. This is by far unprecedented betrayal of the century!!💔

#TPLF chairman Debretsion appears on #TigrayTV YouTube for the first time talking about the ongoing war. He states that what he described as "the genocidal regime of Abiy Ahmed" is waging war on Tigray, which he describes as an existential war, and that the fighting will be mobile (perhaps hinting at a guerilla war). He says they will engage the enemy at places and times of their choice, not dictated by the enemy. He added that the war has a regional dimension with external support. He called on the Tigrayan people to show unity and asked the diaspora and friends to support Tigray. He also said it is just a matter of time, and Tigray will be a graveyard for the enemy, and victory will be theirs. #Ethiopia youtube.com/watch?v=so4Js-xx…

Ethiopia says it needs sea access by force, while seven groups are reportedly coming together under an alliance called “Survival.” 😏 Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ 👇 says. focus to the suffering of the Ethiopian people themselves. Instead of succeeding as Abiy Ahmed's envoy in promoting the government's agenda regarding the Red Sea to the world, his appearance revealed a more troubling issue: #Ethiopia #António #Guterres’

Though repression of the #EPLF in #Eritrea didn’t start in 2001, today marks a quarter of a century since senior officials, ministers, journalists and all those who called for democratic reforms were detained, disappeared, and their whereabouts are unknown. What a national tragedy!

No surprise that Eritrea’s regime exists on defiance but I just learned that Isaias’ party is People’s Front for Democracy and Justice. What a joke - it’s not the people’s, no democracy and no justice. The name is Orwellian and a pathetic horror show! hornreview.org/2026/09/10/is…

The suffering of Eritreans continue, thanks to criminals like @hawelti. Any Eritrean is not allowed to possess more than 25k Nakfa (~$1667) for 15 days else they will face legal action by the regime. This is the ultimate abuse of citizens! @EUtoAU you are funding this brutality!

Majority in the diaspora are enablers of Brutal Isayas; whether they openly cheer it on or quietly visit while staying silent about its crimes,as well as Isaias's generals. They have let this brutal, murderous regime strangle the life out of Eritrea one slow death at a time. #G15

It is about time someone started paying attention to the Tigrinyanization Of all Eritrea including lowlands. It is mind boggling that all of the lowlanders students and most of the institutions in Eritrea use Tigrigna.
The Tigrinyacization of Eritrean Discourse “Bahti Meskerem” is what Tigrinya-speakers call “September 1st.” The people who started the Eritrean armed struggle, lowlanders, call the day “Fatih mn Sebtember”, Arabic for September 1. But how Tigrinya-speakers refer to the date, “Bahti Meskerem”, is now the official name of the holiday to commemorate the start of Eritrea’s armed struggle. Even when writing in English. Here’s another example. The indigenous people of the Northern Red Sea call their land Sahel and Semhar. Per the Tigrinyasization Project, their area is now called “Semenawi QeyiH Bahri”—SeQeBa for short, or Northern Red Sea. The people who live in Southern Red Sea call their land Denkalia. But because the Tigrinya phrase for Southern Red Sea is “Debubawi QeyiH Bahri” or DeQeBa for short, that’s what the official name of the place is in Eritrean maps. One can say “this is due to renaming which affected all regions.” Sure. But why not the Arabic for Northern Red Sea or Southern Red Sea? Why Tigrinya? In short, the only time non-Tigrinya speakers are allowed to celebrate their language and culture is at State-sanctioned expos, where they tell us how they dress, how they dance, and what they eat so we can say “One People! One Heart!” (One language.) This is what passes for “Unity in diversity” in Eritrea. Talking honestly about it is “divisive.” Or, more often, specially in the Diaspora, Tigrinya speakers appropriate their culture and represent them. While celebrating “diversity.” 🙄 This is a dangerous development that has been going on, slowly, but methodically, over the last 35 years. It’s dangerous for a pluralistic society with 9 languages. And if you are going to say “oh stop, language is just a tool for communication…” ok, practice what you preach and learn their languages.
