🌍 Ahead of COP31: Taking Local Climate Action Together! 🌱 As Türkiye prepares to host #COP31, PACE Project continues to support efforts to tackle climate change across the 11 earthquake-affected provinces. These efforts bring municipalities and communities together to develop effective solutions to local needs. 🤝 As part of this work, PACE Project brought together 101 representatives from municipalities, civil society organizations, business support organizations, universities, and public institutions at a workshop. Participants of the workshop explored how they could work together to address climate change and support Hatay’s sustainable recovery following the earthquakes. 💬 Drought, flooding, water management, and environmental pollution were key topics on the agenda. Participants discussed how to address these challenges together and developed proposals for taking joint action. 📌 Through workshops like this, PACE Project aims to strengthen local cooperation in Hatay and help municipalities and communities better prepare for the impacts of climate change. 🤝 The first group of projects selected to receive grant funding through the PACE Project’s Call for Proposals has been announced. The Call for Proposals aims to support local recovery and strengthen long-term resilience in the 11 provinces affected by the 6 February earthquakes. ✉️ Successful applicants will be informed by email. 🏘️ Civil society and business support organisations will collaborate with local authorities through their projects to address the needs of earthquake-affected communities, implement activities that complement local public services, and improve access to services for vulnerable groups. 🌱 These projects will also support businesses in becoming more sustainable through the green transition and enable civil society to contribute to climate action and environmental recovery. 🎉 We congratulate the organisations selected to receive grant funding and thank all applicants for their strong interest in the Call for Proposals. 🏙️Strengthening Local Participation for Urban Development and Inclusion in Defne During #UrbanOctober! 🤝 The PACE Project with TESEV @TESEV2015 , is strengthening the participation of civil society organisations (CSOs) and residents in municipal decision-making processes. 🌱 As part of this partnership, representatives of Defne Municipality @defnebelediyesi and CSOs came together in Hatay on 7–9 October for the Climate Action-Based Local Governance and Participation Workshop. Participants discussed local climate policies, municipal services and the role of CSOs in decision-making processes. The workshop also introduced methods for monitoring and evaluating municipal strategic plans, while CSO and municipal representatives jointly developed policy proposals and identified opportunities for collaboration based on local needs, which will be submitted to the relevant municipal departments through MoDeL, a digital participation and monitoring tool. 🌍 Through this collaboration, the PACE Project aims to ensure that the views of residents and CSOs are meaningfully reflected in the planning, implementation and monitoring of municipal services. #WorldFoodDay – A Story from Hatay Nurcan, who plans to start a pastry business in Hatay, is receiving training and mentoring through the “Growing Green Together Programme”, implemented by the Hatay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HTSO) @hatay_tso with financial support from the PACE Project. 🌱 Nurcan plans to use suitable climate-control systems to reduce the loss of chocolate products and raw materials in Hatay’s hot climate. Her goal is to build a sustainable business where women can participate in production. 🍫 Through its support to HTSO, the PACE Project helps entrepreneurs like Nurcan use resources more efficiently and integrate green transformation into their business plans. In doing so, HTSO’s services complement local public services provided by municipalities and contribute to the long-term recovery of earthquake-affected businesses. 🏙️In the second week of #UrbanOctober, we’re highlighting the PACE Project’s partnership with the Adıyaman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ATSO) @adiyamantso . At the Adıyaman Green SME Support and Inclusion Centre, established with support from the PACE Project, young entrepreneurs receive training and advice from ATSO experts to turn their ideas into concrete business plans. With this support, Rukiye developed her business plan and took an important step towards starting her own business. 🌱 PACE Project helps business support organisations provide services that complement those of municipalities after the earthquakes. Training and advice for entrepreneurs contribute to local employment and more inclusive, resilient and sustainable cities. 💬 ATSO Project Expert Kübra Tanır highlights the challenges businesses have faced following the earthquakes. She emphasises the need for support in accessing finance, developing digital skills and business planning to help businesses rebuild their production capacities and strengthen their access to markets. Through its activities, ATSO aims to help young people and aspiring entrepreneurs establish more resilient and competitive businesses. 🏙️ PACE Project Strengthens Local Participation through MoDeL: First Workshop Held in Defne! The first local participation workshop under the PACE Project took place in Defne, Hatay, bringing together stakeholders to explore opportunities for greater civic participation in municipal planning and decision-making. Developed by TESEV @TESEV2015 with support from the EU-funded and Networks Grant Programme, MoDeL: Strategic Plan Monitoring and Participation Tool help people explore municipal strategic plans and share ideas and cooperation proposals with municipalities. This tool was originally coordinated by the Directorate for EU Affairs @ABBaskanligi , and now partnered with the PACE Project to ensure civil society shapes the municipal plans to be more inclusive, accessible and stronger. For the PACE Project, TESEV has updated MoDeL and will bring this tool to five partner municipalities in the earthquake-affected region. The tool and related participatory capacity building activities will help municipalities, CSOs and BSOs to work together on more inclusive and participatory local governance. This work will also contribute to PACE’s wider exchange with 24 municipalities.
