Another great plenary session on the last morning of the Adhesion Society Annual meeting. Christopher So from the Naval Research Laboratory delivered a talk on "Sticking like Barnacles: Mimicking a Novel Class of Underwater Adhesive Nanomaterials".

I gave out “organic chemistry friendship bracelets” (ORGO, ACID, BASE) today to students who volunteered to solve problems on the board in class. Day 1 of this experiment was wildly successful. I had students already volunteering to answer questions in future classes.

Marie Curie died of aplastic anaemia on 4 July 1934, a result of years of exposure to radiation through her work. Even today her laboratory notebook from 1899-1902, is radioactive and will be for 1,500 years.
