Minnehaha County Deputy Katherine Ann Frank died today. She was 26.
She was shot Friday night in Sioux Falls and fought for three days.
She worked at the state pen before she ever put on the deputy badge in 2024. She chose this job. She knew what it could cost.
Sheriff Mike Milstead said she "served with dignity and heart."
She leaves her parents, five brothers and sisters, her grandparents and her boyfriend.
Local reports say she's the first Sioux Falls-based officer killed by gunfire in more than a century.

Schools closed. Shops closed. Offices empty. Flights delayed. Men had to strap their babies to their chests and go to work.
Guess what?
Did the lights go off? NO.
Did the water stop? NO.
Did the toilets overflow? NO.
Did the roads disappear? NO.
Did the houses fall? NO.
Did the country go dark? NO.
Did food stop being delivered to stores? No.
WHY?
Because power plant workers - MEN.
Wastewater, sewage, digging in shit - MEN.
Fuel, diesel, heavy trucks in the cold - MEN.
Emergency repair, live wires, broken pipes - MEN.
Police, coast guard, security - MEN.
Emergency still worked. Hospitals still had power. Because MEN kept it on.
If women are the backbone, when the backbone is removed, the body should fall. But Iceland didn't fall. It stood. Annoyed. But STANDING.
So women are NOT the backbone. They proved it.
Women left and men did BOTH jobs, kept the world running AND took care of the kids the women abandoned for your protest. Without you. 🤷🏿♂️
