The last time I applied for a job in person was 2009, at a GameStop in my college town. They made me take a form back home, fill out all my “job experience” and then turn it in the next day.
When I turned it in, the (Boomer) manager looked at it for five seconds, said “no experience in retail, huh? Sorry, you’re not a good fit.” and that was it.
This job entailed sitting at a cash register and occasionally answering questions about new video games, most of which I wanted the job so I could afford to buy them.
When I graduated in 2012, I applied to over 500 entry level jobs for computer programmers and engineers, as my degree would ostensibly qualify me for. I received a single interview. Thankfully, I got that job, but already at that point most “entry level” jobs were asking for five or more years of experience.
I’m convinced that Boomers are perpetual infants, and have no actual conception of time. Everything is NOW. What can you do RIGHT NOW?
