He was left alone with four children, destitute, starving, and grieving for the beloved spouse whose corpse-like form now wandered the fields outside of their dilapidated house, feasting on horse flesh.  When Lynch found him, he was desperate. And desperation makes easy prey of men.

Lynch told Warren Russett she could help him, if he helped her. Her blood serum would give him the strength and resilience needed to destroy the Corruption that had destroyed his home. He could have a happy, normal life with his children again. But first she needed his help testing it. Monsters, she told him, were formed by Corruption and depravity. But heroes were formed through good intention and righteous action. He could be one of the heroes, if he played his cards right. He could live happily ever after. He wept for joy and agreed.  Warren would be the third to drink from Corruption’s Cup.
