Happy to share our new study published in The Oncologist!
In patients with de novo mHSPC, baseline 25(OH)D provided prognostic information for progression-free survival and contributed to a prognostic model that was externally validated.

🚨 Can a routine pre-treatment blood test help predict pathological complete response (pCR) in breast cancer?
Thrilled to share our latest multi-center study now in #TheBreast
By combining lipid metabolism and systemic inflammation into a single marker, RCII (Remnant Cholesterol × CRP):
📉 Lower log-RCII was independently associated with a higher likelihood of pCR (adj. OR 0.48, 95% CI 0.33–0.69).
🎯 Strong discrimination in the external validation cohort (AUC: 0.84, 95% CI 0.76–0.91)!
A promising, accessible signal awaiting prospective validation 🔬

⌚ Can a smartwatch identify high-risk patients after discharge?
In STEP-CANCER, ≤3,013 steps/day was linked to 90-day readmission (73% vs 13%) and mortality (47% vs 9%).
Congrats to @drOrhunakdogan , @uyargalip and team. Special thanks to @crisbergerot and @realbowtiedoc 🙏

🧬 Association between PhenoAge-assessed biological age and survival outcomes in solid tumor patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors
🔬 In this retrospective, two-center study of 302 patients receiving immune checkpoint inhibitor monotherapy, we evaluated whether biological aging, assessed by PhenoAgeAccel, was associated with clinical outcomes.
📊 Patients with accelerated biological aging (PhenoAgeAccel >0) had significantly shorter PFS (3.8 vs 7.7 months)and OS (7.1 vs 20.4 months) compared with patients without accelerated biological aging.
💡 In multivariable analyses, PhenoAgeAccel remained independently associated with both PFS (HR 1.93) and OS (HR 2.19), suggesting that biological age may provide prognostic information beyond chronological age in patients receiving immunotherapy
Many thanks to @osutcuoglu for always guiding, supporting, and inspiring us, and to our amazing team for all their hard work and contributions.🙏🏻

Topical Diclofenac for Preventing Capecitabine-Induced Hand-Foot Syndrome - Enes Yeşilbaş (@Xesiloglu)

🎉 Our new study is now published in JCO Global Oncology!
💊🖐️ Topical Diclofenac for Prevention of Capecitabine-Induced Hand-Foot Syndrome: A Prospective Real-World Study
🔬 In this prospective, two-center real-world study of 151 patients receiving capecitabine-based therapy, we evaluated prophylactic topical diclofenac for the prevention of clinically significant hand-foot syndrome (HFS).
📊 Grade ≥2 HFS occurred in 16.9% (12/71) with topical diclofenac versus 13.8% (11/80) with active monitoring (OR 1.28; 95% CI, 0.52–3.10; P = .591).
💡 Our findings showed that prophylactic topical diclofenac did not reduce clinically significant HFS or delay its onset in routine clinical practice, adding prospective real-world evidence to this evolving area of supportive oncology.
🙏 Special thanks to our first author, Dr. Orhun Akdoğan(@drOrhunakdogan) and our mentor, Dr. Osman Sütcüoğlu(@osutcuoglu) for their leadership and guidance, and to our entire team(@uyargalip, @kbaskurtt, @yucelbirkadriye) for their valuable contributions. Grateful to be part of this collaboration!

📄 Our paper, developed from my internal medicine residency thesis at Akdeniz University (@Akdenizun), is now published in @Cancers_MDPI .
🧠 We studied 166 patients with recurrent glioblastoma, IDH-wildtype. At first recurrence, 114 received a bevacizumab-containing strategy and 52 a non-bevacizumab strategy.
🔎 After propensity-score overlap weighting with multiple imputation, bevacizumab-containing treatment was not associated with improved post-recurrence overall survival (HR 1.40, 95% CI 0.93 to 2.10) or prPFS (HR 0.81, 95% CI 0.55 to 1.18).
⚠️ Yet documented second progression was much less frequent with bevacizumab (cause-specific HR 0.29, 95% CI 0.16 to 0.53), while death before documented progression was more frequent (HR 1.65, 95% CI 0.93 to 2.93).
At 24 months, documented second progression was 20.2% vs 55.3%, while death before documented progression was 65.5% vs 34.7%.
⚖️ This is important because prPFS combines events moving in opposite directions. In the antiangiogenic setting, less radiographic progression does not necessarily translate into better disease control or longer survival.
🙏 Grateful to Prof. Dr. Sema Sezgin Göksu, Dr. Galip Can Uyar (@uyargalip), and my mentor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Osman Sütcüoğlu ( @osutcuoglu) for their support throughout this project.

🇨🇭 Two inspiring days at the @myESMO Preceptorship on Endometrial Cancer in Lugano.
🎤 Honored to present our challenging case on dostarlimab-associated bowel perforation in MSI-H, p53-mutant endometrial cancer and discuss it with leading experts.
🌸 One unforgettable moment: while describing my patient’s remarkable recovery, I said, “the patient became like a flower.” The room burst into laughter only to realize that many colleagues across Europe use the very same expression.
🙏 My sincere thanks to @Ilaria_Colombo_, Fabian Trillsch, Nicoletta Colombo, Nicole Concin, @PrJEKurtz, Domenica Lorusso, Frederik Marmé, @xmatiasguiu, and Alina Sturdza for their inspiring lectures, insightful discussions, and valuable feedback.
