I just paid $2,000 in rent for an apartment I've lived in for three years, kept clean, maintained, and never missed a payment on.
Then my landlord emailed me a renewal notice saying my rent was going up another $300 a month.

You collect $24,000 a year from me, build equity with the money I pay you, and then raise my rent because the market says you can.
