Hitting thru the ball is an indicator, not a contributor. The collision lasts about 1.2 ms, which means what the bat does after contact doesn’t affect the outcome. Follow-through means the barrel was accelerating before contact. Deceleration shows up as cut-off extension.

We romanticize the grind.
