Absolutely delighted that our ‘Cool Roof’ initiative has been featured in UNEP’s latest report. As part of the Urban Heat Mitigation Project, the Environment and Climate Change Department, GOTN in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme, implemented a cool roof technology demonstration in Chennai. The Lighthouse Project site in Perambakkam was chosen as the pilot location. Silka cool roof paint, with a high Solar Reflective Index (SRI) of 102, was applied to two residential blocks comprising 200 houses. This passive cooling intervention led to a temperature reduction of 5 to 8°C inside the buildings during peak summer months. We are now scaling up the initiative.
Amid scorching temperatures, India turns to ideas both old and new to beat the heat unep.org/news-and-stories/st…

Today we lost more than lives.
We lost dreams, families, futures and a piece of our collective soul.
As a pilot, this tragedy in Ahmedabad is not just news it’s personal.
Every passenger, every crew member they are never just names on a manifest. They are the reason we fly with care, with duty and with love. And it is why we study so hard and give exams every 6 months.
My heart breaks for those who were aboard that Air India flight, for their families and for the colleagues in uniform who now won’t return home. There are no words strong enough to carry the grief that hangs in the air today.
But what makes this even harder is the noise. The rush to speculate. The self appointed “experts” with theories but no facts.
Aviation is a world of precision, training and systems. When things go wrong, we don’t need assumptions we need patience, facts and respect for the gravity of the loss.
To my fellow aviators, I know you feel this too. The knot in your stomach, the silence while doing the checklists, the moment you glance at the sky and it doesn’t look the same.
To the public,I ask for compassion. For silence sometimes. For empathy always.
Let us mourn, let the investigators work and let the skies remain sacred.
Fly high, those we lost. You are not forgotten. 🙏🏻

On this #WorldOceanDay we must pause and hear the deep cries echoing from the bottom of our oceans, not silent anymore, but rising in revolt against the choking grip of pollution. Oceans cover 75% of Earth, hold 97% of its water, absorb 23% of CO₂, and support over 50% of global biodiversity yet they being dumped with trash around the world. In Tamil Nadu we are on a mission to to do our best to restore degraded islands, seagrass meadows, corals and mangroves which in turn will protect highly endangered Dugongs, Seahorses,Turtles and millions of other species. So far we have restored 18 acres of seagrass beds, 8 acres of corals including Kasuvar Island, planted 2403 Ha of new Mangroves and restored 1207 Ha of degraded Mangroves. Restoration of Vaan and Kariyachalli islands is underway. Fishnet initiative is helping to prevent discarded fishing nets from entering the Ocean. Lets Save,Conserve and Protect our beautiful oceans which are our lifeline. #WorldOceansDay #TNForest video - Branching Corals in Kariyachalli and Kasavur Island

Restoring degraded forests is one of the most powerful actions to protect biodiversity and combat climate change. In Tamil Nadu, we have successfully restored around 100 hectares of degraded forest land in the Palayam Pudhur beat of Dharmapuri Forest Range by planting over 10,000 native tree species under the Green TN Mission through the ongoing NABARD scheme. This initiative not only rejuvenates a once degraded ecosystem but also teaches us to invest in restoration to revive biodiversity and build climate resilience #TNGreenMission @NABARDOnline #TNForest @UNEP @UNBiodiversity #biodiversity #forestrestoration

Nesting season of Baya weavers has begun. Males are busy in making half nests and wooing females to inspect them and give their approvals so that they can finalise the nests and breed in monsoon. Males abandon nests in case females disapprove them. Interesting to watch.

Would you still call it sacred if it's drowning in plastic?
High-altitude temples like #Kedarnath & #Badrinath are burdened by plastic & litter. Pilgrims and locals must unite to protect their sanctity. Sacredness is in our responsibility too. Together, we can restore purity ✨

They told her to stay home. She sailed to Nazi Germany.
They told her to obey. She defied racist science with data.
They told her to stop. She built a legacy that lives on in whispers.

India’s first female anthropologist, she crossed borders—literal and social—to study skulls, decode caste, and dismantle Nazi race theories with fearless science.

The Truth About National Herald & Young India:
The National Herald was founded by Pandit Nehru in 1938. By 2008, its ownership rested with Associated Journals Ltd (AJL) a private limited company that also held properties worth thousands of crores, effectively making its shareholders (including the Gandhis) the legal owners.
That year, AJL ran into financial trouble, stopped publication, and faced mounting staff salaries and liabilities. To help it survive, the Indian National Congress extended unsecured loans worth ₹90 crore over a period of time purely to cover operational costs and dues.
In 2012, Dr. Subramanian Swamy approached the Election Commission seeking the de-recognition of the Congress Party, alleging impropriety in providing such loans.
However, the Election Commission dismissed Swamy’s complaint, stating there was nothing wrong or illegal in the Congress lending money to AJL.
Critics now ask: Why didn’t AJL sell its properties to pay off the debt instead of taking a loan from Congress?
Here’s why: Had AJL sold its properties, the financial gains would have gone to its shareholders including the Gandhis.
Instead, AJL chose not to liquidate assets, keeping them as a financial cushion for the potential revival of National Herald.
To safeguard the paper’s legacy and prevent personal financial gain, a new entity Young India (YI) was created under Section 25 of the Companies Act, making it a non-profit organization.
Congress wrote off the loan, and AJL’s ownership was transferred to Young India.
Importantly:
•Young India is a not-for-profit entity — it provides no salaries, dividends, or financial benefits to its directors or shareholders.
•As a private limited company, AJL’s assets could have generated enormous profits for its shareholders. Under Young India, they cannot.
•If, in the future, Young India or AJL is dissolved, all assets will be liquidated and proceeds will go to the Government’s Rehabilitation and Insolvency Fund not to any individual.
So let’s be clear:
If the Gandhis or Congress had wanted personal gain, they could’ve simply sold AJL’s assets.
They didn’t.
They chose to form a non-profit to revive the National Herald and ensure no individual gains from its legacy.
Without Young India, the Gandhis as shareholders of AJL stood to gain thousands of crores.
Instead, they consciously chose to transfer ownership to a non-profit, ensuring zero personal benefit.
That’s the real story of #NationalHeraldCase.

Former PM Manmohan Singh passed away today aged 92. In 2018, he had gotten candid about his years in office...

There are countless things to remember #ManmohanSingh for—especially what he achieved as the FM of this nation. But it's ironic how a PM who was constantly ridiculed for being silent will always be remembered for being the last PM of India who faced the press at least until 2024.

Few people in politics inspire the kind of respect that Sardar Manmohan Singh ji did.
His honesty will always be an inspiration for us and he will forever stand tall among those who truly love this country as someone who remained steadfast in his commitment to serve the nation despite being subjected to unfair and deeply personal attacks by his opponents.
He was genuinely egalitarian, wise, strongwilled and courageous until the end. A uniquely dignified and gentle man in the rough world of politics.

“I was born in a poor family in a chronically drought prone village which is now part of Pakistan. University scholarships and grants made it possible for me to go to college in India as well as in England. This country has honoured me by appointing me to some of the most important public offices of our sovereign Republic.
This is a debt which I can never be able to fully repay. The best I can do is to pledge myself to serve our country with utmost sincerity and dedication. This I promise to the House.”
