There's actual, MK9 like tag mode in MK1 that's currently unused/not finished! At the moment, no evidence of this being added in future but its very likely.

I love rivals but it won’t ever be like this cuz they make everything about it with no counter play in mind unless you use an ult…. You hear DPS ult in rivals and you don’t got a support ult your finished, you hear a support ult and can’t match your finished.
