Extremely happy that our collaboration with @ICIJorg is recognized as runner-up for the PET Award 2021. Hope our work inspires more researchers to collaborate with NGOs to help them build safe environments for their members and beneficiaries. It is an amazing experience. Try it!

We made an analysis of the potential harms for individuals, communities, and venues that can stem from deploying #LucaApp Building a centralized infrastructure to mediate interactions with public health, means the central server has all the power arxiv.org/pdf/2103.11958 👇

Thanks to all your feedback we managed to release a much-improved version of CrowdNotifier, our design for a privacy-preserving and abuse-resistant presence tracing system. Updated white paper here: github.com/CrowdNotifier/doc… Details :below:

Finally, the new white paper also has an extended comparison with existing systems, and a much more extensive security analysis. None of this would be possible without the amazing collaboration with @carmelatroncoso @sedyst @ebugnion @mikarv @marcelsalathe and @kennyog

Work on CrowdNotifier hasn't stopped! While we are incorporating your awesome feedback into a new version of the White paper (out soon), we now also have code 👇
Sometimes proximity tracing is not enough. Happy to present our proposal for privacy-friendly and abuse-resistant notifications for gatherings: github.com/CrowdNotifier/doc… We want feedback! Joint work with @carmelatroncoso @mikarv @sedyst @ebugnion @marcelsalathe 👇

Thanks to your feedback, the code already implements an improvement to the protocol that protects against QR-code tampering. So by all means: keep your feedback coming!

2) The system does not create (nor require) a database listing all participating venues and events so as to ensure that private events that are not registered currently don't need to be registered to support tracing.

3) Protection against abuse. Targeting specific users or populations (e.g., visitors of specific bars/venues/events) is hard. The system requires cooperation of health authorities and owners/organizers to trigger notifications, so all need to be corrupted to trigger fake alerts.
