A Yellow Vest coordination group behind France’s October 17 protests against the high cost of living announced Monday that fresh demonstrations would be held on October 24 and 31, ahead of a nationwide union mobilization in November.
The group described Saturday’s planned protests as “Act II” and published a map on its website showing dozens of actions already scheduled, French media reported.
Benjamin Ball, the website’s editor, said organizers had initially intended to focus on building support for November 5, when an alliance of trade unions has called for strikes and demonstrations across the public and private sectors.
However, strong demand for another round of protests prompted plans for earlier actions, he said.
“We’re maintaining momentum for November 5, but we’ll build step by step,” Ball said, outlining successive mobilizations on October 24, October 31 and November 5.
The CFDT, CGT, FO, UNSA and FSU unions have called for the November action over wages, public services, employment and industry.
The announcement follows nationwide demonstrations on Saturday that were marred by violence and looting in several French cities.
Ball said the October 17 mobilization had generated a major surge in participation, but argued that it had not yet been sufficient.
Following President Emmanuel Macron’s televised address on Sunday evening, the coordination group criticized his remarks as an “empty speech” and requested a meeting at the Élysée Palace alongside representatives of other mobilized sectors.
UN experts warned Monday that Palestinian farmers in the occupied West Bank face escalating violence, land destruction and access restrictions by Israeli occupiers as the annual olive harvest begins.
"Palestinian farmers must be protected and able to access their land safely. Yet, year after year, the violence, destruction and restrictions intensify," the experts said in a statement, urging Israel to ensure their protection.
During the 2025 olive harvest, 178 occupier attacks linked to the harvest were documented across 88 Palestinian towns and villages, the highest number of affected locations since 2020, according to the experts.
More than 6,000 olive trees and saplings were vandalized, nearly double the 2024 figure and the highest number in six years, they said.
The experts also raised alarm over Israeli military orders issued in September 2026 to remove vegetation from approximately 339,000 square meters (84 acres) of Palestinian agricultural land, including olive groves in Jenin, Qabatiya and Beit Rima.
The orders allow olive trees to be uprooted and give landowners extremely limited time to remove vegetation or file objections, according to the experts.
They also warned that Israeli authorities have increasingly denied farmers permits to access their land.

Strong exports and industrial production supported the recovery, while weak consumer demand and a prolonged property downturn continued to weigh on growth. The results bring Beijing closer to its annual economic growth target of 4.5%–5%.
