Breaking News: Britainâs biggest hospitality brands have pledged 100,000 jobs for #NEET young people. It shows what our sector does best. With the Budget two weeks away, the Chancellor should back the businesses creating those jobs, not hit them with new costs.
đ @UKHospitality and Government have teamed up with Whitbread, Merlin, Marriott, Parkdean Resorts, McDonaldâs, Nandoâs, Haven and others on paid jobs for 18 to 24-year-olds over three years. The wider #VisitorEconomy can do even more, and weâre building that offer now.
đ Mayor @ClaireWard4EM has launched @VisitEastMidlands, with a ÂŁ1bn ambition to grow the regionâs #VisitorEconomy by 2035. This is what mayoral leadership on tourism looks like when businesses are at the table.
đˇ 401,250 people have backed #VATsTheProblem, and the petition is now at No 10. The Treasury still says VAT exceptions âare limitedâ. Two weeks to change their minds.
đď¸ @Eddylev made the case for UK competitiveness on the #APPG for Hospitality and Tourismâs Budget panel, as the DCMS Committee opened its tourism inquiry. At VAC2026, he warned on the #OVL in his talk, Nightmare on Levy Street.
Weâre in the room and on the record â advocating for the policy changes that protect jobs, drive growth and deliver the stable framework our #VisitorEconomy needs to thrive.

Nine years of working night shifts in hospice care taught me something Iâll never forget:
People nearing the end of their lives rarely ask for the things youâd expect.
Sometimes, they donât ask for God. They donât ask for miracles. Sometimes, they ask for something so small it breaks your heart.
Room 4 belonged to an 86-year-old man named Walter. He had lung cancer. His wife, Dorothy, had died in 2019, and he hadnât had a single visitor in eleven days.
One night, around 2 a.m., he waved me over.
âAre you married?â he asked.
âNo,â I told him.
He nodded slowly. âThen you probably donât wear perfume.â
I smiled and told him I had some in my locker.
âWhat kind?â
âNothing fancy. Just something cheap from the drugstore.â
He shook his head.
âDorothy wore White Shoulders. Every night before bed. Not for church. For bed.â
He chuckled, but the laughter quickly turned into a coughing fit. When he finally caught his breath, he looked at the ceiling and said something I still think about.
âI used to tell her she was wasting it on me. Sheâd say, âThe good stuff isn't for God. Itâs for whoever has to look at you in the morning.ââ
Then he smiled.
Not the polite smile people give strangers. The kind that belongs to someone remembering the best years of his life.
I finished my shift at seven that morning, but I couldnât stop thinking about Dorothy.
So I drove to three different pharmacies until I finally found a bottle of White Shoulders. It was tucked on the bottom shelf, behind the nail polish remover.
$18.99.
That evening, on my night off, I went back to the hospice.
Walter was asleep.
I didnât wake him. I sprayed a little perfume on the inside of his pillowcase, then sprayed a washcloth and gently folded it across his chest.
I sat beside him for a while.
He never opened his eyes.
But slowly, almost painfully slowly, his hand rose from the blanket. He reached for the washcloth and rested his palm flat against it.
Then he held it there.
His breathing softened. His face relaxed. For the first time in days, the tension seemed to leave his body.
I've watched many people die over the years. Nurses learn to recognize the moments when someone stops struggling against what is coming.
That night, I watched Walter settle into a memory that was bigger than the room he was lying in.
Maybe he was remembering Dorothy getting ready for bed. Maybe he was remembering the way she smelled when she climbed beside him. Maybe, for a few precious minutes, he wasn't an 86-year-old man dying alone.
Maybe he was simply a husband lying next to his wife again.
Walter passed away on Thursday morning.
Nobody came to collect his belongings.
His room was cleaned, his bed was remade, and eventually another patient moved in. The world kept going, as it always does.
But I never forgot him.
People think hospice care is about managing pain, administering medication, and making someone comfortable during their final days.
And yes, it is.
But sometimes, comfort isn't a medication.
Sometimes, it's a familiar song.
A voice you haven't heard in years.
A hand holding yours when the room goes quiet.
Or the smell of the person you loved most in the world.
We spend our entire lives building what we call home. We fill it with furniture, photographs, clothes, and all the ordinary things we barely notice until they're gone.
But when everything else is stripped away, home can become something incredibly small.
A familiar scent.
A remembered touch.
A voice saying your name.
Sometimes, home is the person you keep expecting to find beside you when you wake up.
And sometimes, when you can't bring that person back, the kindest thing another human being can do is help you remember them one last time.
I've worked nine years of night shifts in hospice care.
If there's one thing I've learned, it's this:
At the end of life, people don't always need someone to save them. Sometimes, they just need someone to remind them that they were loved.

đ¨ SHARE THIS FACE EVERYWHERE: MANHUNT UNDERWAY AFTER THUG BRUTALLY PUNCHES WOMAN ON TRAIN TO COVENTRY!
We need to make sure this coward has nowhere left to hide across Great Britain today.
British Transport Police have launched an urgent manhunt after a woman was repeatedly punched in the chest and face aboard a train approaching Coventry station.
The attacker struck her, walked away, and then returned moments later to push her to the floor and punch her in the face again before following her off the carriage!
While politicians waste time lecturing the public with guidance leaflets on consent, innocent British women cannot even travel on public transport without facing brutal violence. đ¤Ą
Anyone who recognises this individual is urged to contact British Transport Police immediately on 61016 or call 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 433.
Women have the fundamental right to travel without fear on our railways. Let us help identify this man and get justice for the victim.

PIDDINGTON IS GOING TO WAR AGAINST SILENCE.
A democratic warâfought with words, questions, evidence and the ballot box.
Across Parliament, MPs remain silent while communities demand answers. Are they being controlled by the party whip? Are certain subjects considered too politically dangerous to discuss? Who decides what an elected representative may sayâand why is that control hidden from the people who elected them?
The party whip should secure votes, not silence consciences.
When MPs fear their party more than they respect their constituents, representation becomes obedience. Democracy is replaced by management: control the conversation, suppress dissent and leave the public ignored, underrepresented and increasingly frustrated.
Piddington will not accept this dystopian silence.
We demand transparency. We demand independent voices. We demand MPs who answer to their constituents before their party machines.
Our battle is peaceful, democratic and determined and we will keep asking the questions Parliament appears afraid to answer.
Piddington is going to war against silence.

Minister, if your strategy is working so well, why are communities like Piddington still being asked to absorb the consequences?
Success isnât measured by press releasesâitâs measured by whether local people feel protected and heard.
Numbers are easy. Leadership is harder. If your policy is succeeding, why wonât the Government come to Piddington and defend it face to face?
You have my email letter I sent to you. Letâs have a response. Your Prime Minister was sent a letter 14 days ago but was fast to be the first to respond to Cueta and still has failed to share the concerns for Piddington and the country.

The word hero is used a lot these days. But, these two young women are heroes in every sense of the word đ Kelsey Pirie and Emma Brown were attending a friend's wedding, when they heard screams coming from a nearby country park.
The girls, who are both nurses at a Welsh hospital, instantly took action. Still dressed in their wedidng clothes, they kicked off their heels and ran over to where the screams were coming from.
As they arrived, they realised the severity of the situation. A three-year-old boy had been pulled from a pond and wasn't breathing. Kelsey and Emma immediately took over and despite being adult care nurses with no previous experience of performing CPR on children, their professional instincts kicked in.
They spent five minutes attempting to resuscitate the boy, who initially had no pulse.
Kelsey said: âWe donât know how long he had been in the water but he was unresponsive and there were no signs of life. He had no pulse. I started doing chest compressions and Emma started giving rescue breaths.â
Emma added: âIt was difficult due to the amount of water, but after about five minutes he started breathing.â
Paramedics and an air ambulance arrived at the scene and transported the little boy to hospital, while Kelsey and Emma, adrenaline still going, returned to the wedding.
âWe didnât really have a chance to process it; we had to snap back into wedding mode. Iâm so thankful it was all ok," Emma said, adding: âIf it had happened 10 minutes later we would have been inside for the ceremony and might not ever have knownwhat was going on."
The three-year-old boy was taken to hospital and is in a stable condition - no doubt thanks to the brave actions of these two amazing girls that day â¤ď¸
Emma and Kelsey, and another gentleman, Stefan Johnson who first pulled the three year-old from the water, have now been nominated by South Wales Police for a bravery award from the Royal Humane Society for their courage in saving his life.
Right place. Right time. Right people. Absolute heroes đâ¤ď¸

Ceuta 1,100 miles, Piddington 60 miles from 10 Downing Street. London. UK
Prime Minister Andy Burnham publicly described events there as âconcerningâ and offered support to Spain.
Piddington is around 60 miles from 10 Downing Street.
A village of 350 people faces a proposal to accommodate 1,250 single adult men nearbyâan increase equivalent to over 300% of its resident population.
Yet Piddington is still waiting for the same public attention, the same visible concern, and the same direct engagement from its own Prime Minister.
How can a crisis 1,100 miles away command an immediate response, while a community 60 miles from Westminster is still waiting to be heard?
